X-Men '97 1x2 - 'Mutant Liberation Begins' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Comments

Micah has done a good summary of the Summers genealogical tree, so I'll skip that. As for Rogue, yes she and Magneto have had a relationship a few times in the comics. They were married with a child named Charles in the Age of Apocalypse run and that's the first time his ability to touch her popped up as far as I can remember (my memory isn't much better than yours so take that with a grain of salt). This writing/show-running team are definitely fans of the 1990s era comics, although they also mix in threads and characters from the 1980s and the 2000s so it's an adaption, not a one-to-one recreation of the original stories. Definitely a deepish dive into X-Men lore but done in such a way that if you know the stories already you'll spot the references but if you don't know them it won't detract from understanding the story they're telling in this version. And I knew you'd be excited when you watched this episode after your comments about depowered Storm in the last reaction. Glad you enjoyed it, but know that even better things are yet to come.

Iceman and Warren were in the original series. Iceman had a solo episode where they fought X-Factor (90's Lary David team) and Warren had the whole Archangel thing happen to him over a couple eps. Nate Grey is Jean and Scott's kid from the Age of Apocalypse. Cable is Scott and Madelyne's kid. And Rachel is Jean and the Phoenix's kid from the Days of Future Past timeline. And the finale was where Gyrich attacked Xavier and that gave Magneto the push to start a war, but when he found out it what happened, after Morph impersonated the Prof on TV, he stopped to try to help. Then Lilandra took him to the Shi'Ar empire to try to heal him. And the comics have kind of definitively got behind Magneto over the Professor with Hickman's run. Whether it's recent events radicalizing them, the Professor being shown to be a prick over and over again or the 60+ years of his dream not working in reality, I honestly don't see them going back to it. And, admittedly, Magneto is MUCH more deserving of a trial in the comics (where he actually kills people), but starting a bunch of wars gets you a trial
