I have new best friends! My friend, I love talking X-Men and you and Micah have me all sorts of psyched for this series! Thank you for the support and the great comments, my friend!

DUDE...did we just become best friends :D You had me rolling at the 'Why NOT the crop top' line :D I am 1000% checking out your recommendations! The Claremont documentary has rocketed up the top of my Need-to-see-list. Appreciate the awesome info and the laugh, my friend!

One of the many things this show gets right: Scott Summers. They portray his powers and personality in a way that is creative, easy to empathize with, and more complex than the "boy scout" label he is often reduced to. And I say that as someone who has never been much of a Scott fan, so I can't imagine how over the moon his diehard fans are with this series. I started reading X-Men comics in the 1990s not long after the original show aired, but my local comics store had lots of the older issues available for cheap, so I got to read a bit of the Dazzler, Longshot, depowered Storm, Shadowcat as a wrath, etc., era you talked about. Gambit and Rogue were one of my first ships too, so fist-bump of solidity. Most of my comics haven't stayed with me through multiple moves, but I think I still have Gambit's first issue with the de-aged, thief version of Storm. Anyway, having now seen this reaction my first impression is confirmed: you're going to love this show. It's not meant for as young an audience as the original and is therefore able to get into some of the juicier themes the comics touch on. Plus the music is great, which is always a plus for me. Enjoy!

Oh you're going to love this series. I haven't even watched your reaction yet, but I have seen the first season so. i. KNOW.

Oh, so you were tired of my scant 3 paragraph responses to your Trek and Robotech reactions and so decided to do X-Men 97? Might wanna pack a lunch when you get to eps 3 and 5. Being a Claremont Run fan myself, quality choices for favorites when you were listing them (Personally I'm an Outback era guy cause of the GOAT Longshot and Inferno). This series takes a LOT from his and Morrisson's stuff (#3 run behind ol CC and Hickman), esp the whole "Humanity being uneasy with mutants being popular" thing. I mean, the French army basicly told Charles "Yeah, we're developing secret ways to kill you, deal with it" while a Phoenix-ed up Jean was standing 5 freaking feet away. The whole "Who's really on our side and who's just playing along" thing is always a winning theme for me. And no, he's not Rictor (You can tell because he doesn't have Shatterstar smooching on him). Another cool concept: Super strength without the super durability all the other superstrength types roll with at Marvel. Seriously, bust out Marvel Unlimited, the New Mutants is top tier until Liefeld gets his stank all over it. I mean, Demon Bear, Warlock, Selene constantly being dissapointed that her granddaughter Magma is a flop, all great stuff. AND MAGIK! (I'm not a fan of her but everyone else loves her) Yeah, this series does a good job of showing Cyclops being cool. And you'll see how he kinda sucks as well. When falling at terminal velocity and blsting to stop it like he had a level 3 Ultra in Marvel vs Capcom 2 is cool, but you'd have a hard time convincing me the amount of force used to stop him wouldn't have popped his head clean off, but, you know, children's cartoon. Storm? Mohawk Bisexual Awakening in Japan with Yukio Storm is the best Storm, hands down. If you wanna see her at full power, being the best she can be, the most recently concluded run of X-Men Red. Rogue was getting heat from folks online because her voice actor had the unmitigated GALL to age 25 years. But she was busy being a politician in Canada so she gets a pass. Her and Gambit are a power couple (and currently married and Gambit is a cat dad and has in law trouble cause Destiny HATES him and it's glorious. "When I came back and found out my fierce independent daughter had married you, I asked them to kill me again" READ. TO. FILTH!) Beast sucks. He's fun in the cartoon, while being over the top, but he's such a dumpster fire in the comics starting in the 90's. Everyone loves him BECAUSE of the cartoon, which avoided the pitfalls his comics character dove head, so he's OK. Bishop is a weird one. If I don't hear that harmonica lick from the original series every time he's on screen, I feel weird. But they updated his look (even in the comics, his proportions were bonkers) and they did a great job animating his absorbtion. Morph is our cameo queen. Yeah, kinda a dick, but remember, Wolverine LOVES those jokes. They said so in the original series, and I think they're kind of the only one who can get away with being like that and telling Logan the truth that way. As for the ep, you said it, it's our friends the X-Men (and Val Cooper) and we're hanging out with them. Altho when you asked "Why the crop-top", look inside yourself and ask "Why NOT the crop top"? And the freaky vision rocked (And pay attention to the music in the background there, might hear that again) If you're interested in more X-men stuff, I recommend the Days of Future Cast podcast (the initial run when over the animated series and rocks because the goofy gambit impression is done by the host NOT from the bayou state), Battle of the Atom (Proving that there are a lot more bad X-Men comics than good), Cerebro (Because who doesn't have 19 hours to talk Madelyne Pryor), and "Claremont's X-Men", a documentary about his initial run (It's on Prime, but also on YouTube).
