They went to Ferrenginar a buncha times over the run of DS 9. They were always comedy eps but I like 'em. If you ever do a DS 9 watch, they're a nice break. (DS 9 "Family Business" was the first one set on the planet, tail end of season 3) Originally, it's a capitalistic/ misogynistic hellscape. Women cannot wear clothes or own property, you have to pay to enter someone's home or use the elevator, but Rom instituted reforms. (Altho, a few of the women Ferengi were naked in the background of some scenes). I sometimes feel like the entire point of DS9 was reforming them. They were villains that just didn't work and by the end, they're cool. Just a rando extra who was Quark's brother become the Grand Nagus with Lashir's ex who blossoms into a full fledged character (Leeta rocks). Also, Jeffrey Combs as Liquidator Brundt is a revelation.
As for Mariner, not quite a spoiler, but it's the last 2 eps of the season where they go into it. And those 2 Next gen episodes I commented on before are important for that.
