The Gorn plot is similar to that of the TNG episode "Ensigns of Command," in which the human colony was going to be wiped out by the Sheliak, who had claimed the planet and considered the humans an infestation. The captain vs captain battle was reminiscent of the "Darmok" episode, and the Metron sure sounds like a Q - his promise to return and re-evaluate how the human race had evolved calls forward to Encounter and Farpoint / All Good Things. Great video!
