OK, I finished your reaction. May I tell you that I did walk into a theater in 1979 and see this movie, and I walked out saying to my date that I hated it. I then woke up the next morning and realized it was one of the best suspense/horror movies I'd seen to date. All because I realized I was literally on the edge of my seat throughout and it felt like the whole thing had lasted only 20 minutes because I was that fully engaged and deeply immersed every second of the film!
Interesting insights (as usual), especially because you viewed it after the others. Only seeing the edited version (and not having seen the whole film for about a decade) I don't recall pacing issues myself, but I doubt they existed for me in that 1979 theater.
I do now wonder about your take on Ripley's confidence at the start of Aliens. It's a nice thought experiment and I'll have to eventually watch the two in full again to see if you're take rings true for me, too, or not. I just do enjoy your thoughts and insights as they make me think in new ways that I never considered. Thanks!

"This guy drinking milk? That's even weirder." LOL You said what I was thinking! Also, love the Witcher reference, "Winds howling..."
