2024-07-03 00:35:30 +0000 UTCSpeaking of Leonard Nimoy being a rockstar and giving valuable feedback that would improve the character, Sulu was originally meant to have a katana (samurai sword) but Takei recognised that he was a Japanese-American on a TV show and had a responsibility to discourage stereotypes, especially given the not so distant memories of ww2 internment camps, and so they went with fencing instead :)
