2022-02-20 23:05:41 +0000 UTCI'm reading Chain link of Progress, and I'm just wondering how simple the whole magic system is gonna become? Because if magic is just reduced to saying an ancient word with a corresponding meaning to what you're trying to do, belief and visualisation, why is there even a school for magic? Won't magic be super subjective as words have connotations and mean different things to different people due to their own biases. Doesn't Arithmancy have something to do with spell creation? I mean magic is really abstract here, I get that certain spells are more emotion than anything else, but how would a refreshing charm always involve emotion? Also, Hermione did so well in canon because magic was based on a lot of rote memorisation and set rules. As she had a narrow minded mentality that set everything in categories and rules, like how teachers can do no wrong, and how Luna was wrong for talking about things she couldn't find on books, and imposing her moral values on a different species that has a different perception of the world. Wouldn't she have a harder time if magic is so abstract and doesn't follow any rule, wouldn't pureblood children have more success as they grew up learning about the infinite potential of magic and have an actual reason to scorn muggleborns?
