Updates and community livestream!

Hey everyone! I've been pretty busy wrapping up other things on my plate so I can fully concentrate on this project come January. I'm really looking forward to really kicking things off soon, quite likely ahead of time!

As some of you may have seen on Twitter, I have just acquired a Mac Mini as a first target, donated by Ben Stahlhood II. I also have a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro coming soon, thanks to donations from two other folks. Thank you everyone for your support!

I will be running a community livestream, where I'll go over what the initial stages of the project will be, how I tend to approach this kind of porting challenge, and answer your questions. I also want to talk about what the community will look like, and get some feedback on that subject. This will be open to the public too, not just patrons. Timezones make it a bit difficult to find a time that works for everyone, but I'm currently considering doing it at 17:00 UTC on a weekend, probably Sunday. That's 09:00 PST / 12:00 EST / 18:00 CET / 26:00* JST (yes, I'll be staying up late for this). Let me know how that works for you in the comments!

I also just got some interesting little chips in the mail today... I'll talk about what these are for in the stream too :-)

* Yes, in Japan it's standard convention to refer to times past midnight relative to the current day as hour numbers >= 24. More people should do this, it's extremely convenient for things like restaurant opening hours!

Thank you for the Japan tidbit, evokes 懐かし for me.

Where’s this happening? Any link?

Yes. A Sunday at that time is great for those of us in the US. Eager to learn and hear your plans, and exited to see this getting kicked off!

Well and I live in Germany but set my system language to English and some websites then show a.m. and p.m... Its pretty annoying and I always forget whether 12 a.m. is 0:00h or 24:00h... I like the 24h-format much more but this japanese thing is new to me.. Counting hours for more than this day is pretty interesting

I too use 24 hour format for my clocks, after living in Germany for a few months before coming back to the USA. My friends in the USA think it's odd. Good to hear work will start in January and looking forward to the monthly streams!

Thanks for keeping us posted, am pretty pumped for the (first?!) community livestream for this project. Also, TIL about Japan times after 24. That's pretty freakin cool.

I’m in CST so I gratefully say YES to the times proposed :-) I’m of particular interest to learn in more detail your view of why this work is important to you as well as how you believe this work benefits the development / Linux / Mac / Other... communities.

Yes!

Looking forward! Will there be a recording as well for those who missed it?
