Dearest priestess and clerics of the Church, I come seeking the comfort of Dice Christ. Recently, after it came out that I had a crush on a fellow player, I was kicked out of my friendship group and our multiple 3+ year campaigns with little discussion or warning. I enter the church now with no friends in my town, grieving both them and the three beloved characters I played in our campaigns. I was so excited to tell their stories, and now I am sitting on dozens of pages of abandoned in-character diaries and hand-drawn art. D&D used to be 8h every weekend, now I haven't played in months. I ask you, at soon to be 29, do I have any chance still of finding new friends and new games? I really struggle to meet new people. I loved these guys and thought we'd play together until we were in our 70s. Any words of comfort from DC himself? π

2026-01-05 22:15:42 +0000 UTCTo the judges of inestimable wisdom, and the powerful bailiff of ill repute, I bring the case of "Rampant Old Man Adoption". I ran a Curse of Strahd game a few years back, and in my version there was an old man who was sabotaging efforts by the town of Vallaki because he believed Strahd would win and capitulating was the only safe choice. Once the party found this out they ended up beating him up, and handing him off to the Wereravens to keep an eye on. This happened in some fashion or the other 4 more times, because rather than kill them the players felt bad and wanted to keep adopting all the weird old dudes that tried to fight them. Eventually I had to have the Wereravens tell them that they couldn't hold anymore old men in their basement in order to stop my players from backtracking to drop off every weird old man they fought. It all worked out ok but my players were sad that they could no longer "adopt" old men that were trying to kill them. Was I right to put a stop to it, or should I have let them have their harem anime moment?
