Watching this waaaaay after it was posted but it's so funny how much this overlapped with the campaign I'm in right now. We literally are a group of lost orphans! (It's cool as hell, we're in a church with this father figure priest.... my character trusts him but I sure don't.)

I'm painfully aware of the reasons why these rules shouldn't be, but [DM] is very proud of the world they made (they made the pantheon, creation story, planes, and 4 new races before they started writing the story), and I feel that approaching this without some thought might create some tension that I'm not equipped to handle. I did a lot to make the world make sense in the building phase, ("huh, maybe you shouldn't give this custom class advantage with all ranged attacks,") but there are so many tweaks you can suggest before some people feel like they're losing creative freedom. I hope beyond hope that the story will turn out good, but I'm afraid that [DM] will have the story service the world, rather than have the world service the story

1. a nat 1 shouldn't break your weapon. that's some call of cthulhu / breath of the wild nonsense 2. i don't know about renaming stuff, but if they are going to do that, they need a correlation table, because the game is balanced with the existing categories, so you can lose a lot of that if you rename everything just act dumb and be like "hey i'm having a real hard time with this -- can we go back to normal names? so sorry!"

How do I encourage a DM to make the game more fun without hurting their pride as a storyteller? I'm trying to keep the spirit of their story alive, but it's hard to get into it when my weapon breaks every time I roll a nat 1, or when they rename every race, class, and ability in the game. I guess what I'm trying to ask is how do I tell someone that the thing they poured hours into is... bad?

Misreading spell cards (i.e leaving out some of the language like concentration or damage effects, damage types), pretending not to remember taking damage, beefing up their damage with fake rolls or ability scores and not keeping track of spell slots

As a DM, would you ever lie or fluff a dice roll to pass/fail a saving throw to make the campaign run in your favor or roll with the punches and role play it as best you can. Or with damage to save/kill a PC. Thank you and I love your content! <3

How would you handle a PC having their memories stolen/altered/restored, since it can cause a kind of mental dissonance between a character and the player?

As a DM, how do you deal with a spotlight loving player? Who's heart is in the right place, but tends to step on other players toes by taking over NPC conversations or always initiating decisions before others have a chance to talk it out.
