I truly feel for Thiala more now. She's kinda awesome once you think about what she is actually standing for. I know she's being portrayed as the BBEG (and probably is) but I sort of support her stance in the world of Bahumia.

2019-10-03 23:54:38 +0000 UTCMurph’s adaptation/butchery of conventional D&D lore is fascinating; I’m going to pretend that it’s entirely according to some complex backstory, where things were normal in the “original” campaign, but the side effects changed everything since then. Changes Murph has made: - The Githzerai and Githyanki would never “set aside their differences” to fight mind flayers. Neither one is a fan of Illithidi, but they generally kill *each other* on sight. It’s sort of a deliberate theme that they could easily wipe out the mind flayers if only they could work together. - There are lots of individual elder brains, each leading colonies of ~100 mind flayers. Not a single, all-ruling brainmommy - The Nine Hells are Avernus, Dis, Minauros, Phlegathos, Stygia, Malbolgre, Maladomini, Cania, and Nessus. “Lust” and “Heresy” don’t factor in at all - The war fought on the first level, part of The Blood War, is between the devils of Baator and the demons of the Abyss - This one varies by edition, but Asmodeus often is specifically considered a non-deity, Ahriman notwithstanding. So my assumption is that when the first party came through, they helped open diplomatic channels between the Gith factions, they stopped the Abyss from spilling into Baator (thus slowing down if not outright ending The Blood War), and Ilsed restructured Baator to its current form. The various Elder Brains all merged into the singular Brainmommy on their own.
