I was 15 years old in 1987 when I first encountered the SCC sound system.
The cram school I attended at the time lent me an MSX and a laserdisc, and I was more absorbed in Konami's GRADIUS 2, which I borrowed from a friend, than in my studies.
I was shocked by the stage structure that was packed with content despite the awkward 8-dot scrolling and the beautiful, crystal-clear background music, and was instantly captivated by the world view.
