Thank you for sharing. ❤️

MightyMike

Ethel Cain mother and grandmother stories will be her next official albums. We started from the bottom now we’re here

Justice for Michael's editor

shampoo_bamboo

coming from someone who has went through many things this album talks about, it really means so much. it really gets those hopeless yet scared feelings correct. you guys are right for sure about how nobody but someone who has been through that situation can make songs like these! many people overlook this album due to its topics, but i believe its trully one of the best albums of the decade! im really glad you guys enjoyed it and took time to look into every song! ☺️

dayana 🍓

She is very potically outspoken online and there are theories that she doesn't get nominations or many SNL type gigs because of that.

Kelsey Davenport

You two have truly done this album justice. I have to admit I was a bit worried how you would feel about this concept heavy album, but you have blown me away with how genuinely invested you both were in the story and Ethel herself.

Kelsey Davenport

This was one of the best reactions I have seen for Preacher's Daughter. Thank you for both analyzing it yourself and looking through the Genius annotations. Ethel is literally a mastermind of music and lyrics and storytelling.

Kelsey Davenport

She produced this herself !! 😁

Ru

i second the great impersonator!! i think you guys will love it

Ann Askew

omg its so cool of you to react to Ethel!! this was a joy to watch!!! she has such a powerful voice when she sings and Preachers Daughter is an amazing album but I do implore you to please please please also listen to her album "Inbred", it came out before Preachers Daughter and it was my first introduction to her and I personally like Inbred more than Preachers Daughter, especially the last three songs on that album are just gut-wrenchingly haunting and beautiful. Anyways thank you guys for this amazing reaction!

Maren

Amazing reaction!! You both are so well-spoken. The commentary was so interesting to hear. It did not feel as long as it actually is and you guys caught on pretty well on the first listen :) A little lighthearted fun fact! Obama actually put American Teenager on his 2022 list of favourite songs.

xy

You guys should do her Inbred EP!!!

Matt

As soon as you said “PlayStation 4” I had a trauma flashback to Lisa and the sink. I completely agree with the vibe. You’re right—as you go through the house, you realize it’s a man who is one in a series of family annihilators and you can’t ever get out. There’s definitely a droning sound with the repeating numbers that starts to take over and it’s the same sequence from the news reports about the men who killed their families. What a nightmare.

Jessica

loooooved this reaction video! i was lucky enough to see her live in amsterdam last summer and it was beautiful. everyone there was such a huge fan so the energy was great. i sobbed through the entirety of sun bleached flies! for some more album context, as far as i know she didn't actually murder her own father and didn't get any revenge in that way (nor did she want to have revenge at that time). the abuse only stopped because he died, and everybody in their town remembered him as a great man and preacher. great video! such good insights for a first-time listen :)

Mayke

Thoroughfare is one of my favourite songs of all time. I love how on a re-listen how you can pick up what an unreliable narrator Ethel is, and how she is making up a story to cope

Molly Boardman

"perverts" is an EP of heavy, dark, gothic ambient/drone/experimental music. These are songs that should be listened to with the lights off and the volume turned up. Hayden (Ethel) produced everything herself, as she did with Preacher's Daughter.

Jef_68

Just to add context: In "Thoroughfare" Ethel tells the story as if it were a love story. But Hayden (Ethel) released a missing person pamphlet on her social media, where she says that the last time Ethel was seen was being kidnapped in a black truck (Isaia's truck). It is concluded that Ethel was kidnapped and during the trip she got Stockholm syndrome (she fell in love with her kidnapper)

Jef_68

I can't stop listening to Perverts! Very different feeling and style. Can't wait for the reaction

Molly Boardman

This was one of the best reactions to this album I've seen! Looking forwards to Perverts :) Also wanted to mention that Hayden (ethel) is trans, so you can also imagine how it was for her to be trans in the religious deep south.. Still blown away that she written produced and performed this by herself 🖤

Wow, 100% worth the sub to get all the incredible discussion! I do not envy you guys having to decide what to trim. This is possibly my favorite album of all time, so I’ve understandably watched a lot of first time reactions to PD. Y’all’s has immediately flown to the top of my list of favorites to watch. Going in with a brief knowledge of the themes of the albums perfectly primed y’all for the best discussions. I loved everything about this reaction! As a huge PD fan, I must join the chorus in warning you Perverts is a massive shift in sound, and while I don’t gravitate towards drone albums, I’m obsessed with Ethel Cain’s production, and it’s just as jaw dropping on this new record! It’s challenging art, but 100% worth a listen through. I’ll be on deck to watch that reaction as well. The Ptolemaea Scream is always one of my favorites to see the reactions to. On my first listen I remember being frozen slack-jawed with only room for a cocktail of shock and awe inside my mind. I immediately dived into the lore and once I heard it again with a better understanding of the entire story, I fell in love with it. You guys talked a lot about how she did such a good job of conveying the experience of SA in her sound and lyrics in a way that is comprehensible but feels utterly raw and honest. As a survivor myself, there is something about the entire building of that track, particularly into and through The Scream that I can only describe as cathartic. Like hearing someone put into words something you’ve never been able to successfully describe before. To hear someone else, even if they are a fictional character, reach that breaking point that’s so hard to make sense of even as someone who’s experienced it was validating. A common thread amongst survivors is feeling the need to minimize it because “someone else has been through worse”, but the subject does warrant this reaction of rage and anguish because it IS horrific. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate how much time you guys spent engaging with that track despite being openly unsettled by it. I’ve been one of those people in the comments tagging on “please listen to Ethel’s Cain’s Preacher Daughter” to the end of all my comments. I’m so glad you guys finally got to it and were able to really sit with it. Thanks for a fantastic reaction, I really believe it’s one of your best ones to date.

Kayleigh Paxton

always so excited to see a preacher's daughter reaction!! so glad u guys managed to follow along with the story instead of going in blind, it's such a great experience and i watched and loved every second of this reaction!! for perverts it is definitely worth a listen but it is incredibly different from this album: it's relatively more experimental and it's just ambient and drone music with sparse lyrics. but the songs do still tell a story which ethel has explained on various platforms, so it's also worth it to have genius up for that!!

Lena T

Ethel has talked about two more albums in this story "Preacher's Wife" which might be the next one because of the way Preacher's Daughter ended from the POV of Ethel's mother and then "Preacher's Mother" about her grandmother. But not for a long time.

Derlis Aguilera

I've been obsessed with this album since the end of 2022 and I've watched countless reactions. You two had some of the most spot on takes! This album is so emotional and I've heard it soooo many times. I did laugh a little watching you realize strangers was about cannibalism. A lot don't pick up on that!! As a survivor, I think this album is super cathartic and I appreciate your thoughtful reaction. Her new album is nothing like this, it's (hard to describe) ambient with little lyrics/singing. Still an incredible experience imo! She is supposedly releasing other songs in the preacher's daughter universe! But you may check out Inbred until then. 🫶

Madi

This was an excellent reaction and well worth the wait. It’s truly one of those unique once in a lifetime type of albums and you guys did it justice. 🙏🏽 I recommend The Great Impersonator by Halsey, it’s got a versatile sound and an intriguing narrative to follow throughout the album.

Edward Ramirez

Ethel Cain writes, produces and records almost all her music herself. She started her own independent label called Daughters of Cain to release her music. Loved your guys reaction!!

Katie Childers

I LOVED your part 1 reaction and I can’t wait to watch this later tonight. From the comments I can already tell it’s going to be one of my favorite reactions to this album ever! ❤️ (I also second everyone saying to probably just listen to Perverts on your own time vs. reacting—it’s an incredible immersive experience, but more of a post-listen discussion project, not a reaction project)

Candace Murga

Don’t want too spoil too much but perverts is not related to the character of Ethel Cain at all just under the same name and is a completely different sound.Imagine ptolemaea but 15 minutes with less words just a warning going into it there are 2 tracks that vaguely resemble this album but even still very little

Kaeden

Thank you so much

Michael

I just finished the video and I have to say this was the best first reaction to this album, and it's so sad to see you two so excited for Perverts because it's just an experimental EP. She told us that Preacher's Wife and Preacher's Mother will take a really long time because she wants to reach the age of the characters to make the albums feel more authentic😭😭 But about you not seeing her anywhere, she's a really small artist and she was never on TV or anything, she recently said that she loved when her fanbase was smaller because it was all about music and that she would hate to have a swiftie kind of intrusive fandom. I think the reason there was such a demand for this album in your comments was because us Lana fans love ethel for obvious reasons and we found your channel through Lana reactions. But please give Perverts a listen regardless, if you don't like it just know it's a side project.

tom_j

Wow thank you

Michael

Oh perfect

Michael

We will!! I cannot wait

Michael

Too early for me to say but i’ll come back to this after many listens

Michael

Wow I would love to hear any continuation of this universe. It’s truly one of the best conceptual albums I have ever heard

Michael

The editing note after such an emotional song really put a smile on my face lmao you guys are great, btw Nosferatu was amazing

tom_j

I've been obsessed with this album for so long and have watched countless reactions to it, but I have to say, yours is one of the best, if not the best. The 3 1/2 hours were absolutely worth it. Thank you so much! 😭✨

My

The Genius descriptions are pulled from her instagram lives and everything she told us about the story, she even talked about making a book/movie

tom_j

omg sorry i’m just blathering on but you mentioned fka twigs i hope youse react to the album 🙏🙏

Kacper Ciesielski

I'm afraid to comment this but I'm sorry, PD is better than Ants From Up There lol

My

she has such a good kexp live performance of a few of the songs and it’s just wonderful worth checking out if your interested in it !

Kacper Ciesielski

thank you thank you thank you !

noelle

i’m so glad youse enjoyed this record it genuinely holds such a special place in my heart was lucky enough to see her perform it with a live band in 2023 was one of the best shows ever her vocals are insane hayden has confirmed that there will be b sides to this story with a preachers wife perspective and more which is super exciting, she confirmed on tumblr that perverts wasn’t a part of the ethel cain lore but more of a side project in the ethel cain universe it’s an incredible album it’s 95% ambient as she had described and promoted it as still worth a listen very amazing how she can create atmosphere with such little and simple instrumentations. glad you enjoyed loved the reaction keeep it up 🙏🙏

Kacper Ciesielski

the lore with this album is insane! i remember reading/listening to every breakdown and analysis possible after my first listen. sun bleached flies is just breathtaking. thank you for not going into this blind!

kristen

Michael and Dad crying makes me ugly cry

My

Honestly one of the best reactions and discussions I’ve seen to this album. You managed to not spoil anything for yourselves, but also gave yourself enough insight to feel the music. I can’t not sob every time I hear sunbleached flies and strangers…truly so heartbreaking and beautiful.

anna dailey

oh I'm so sat (and el mal querer by rosalia is waiting for you after this epiphany...)

V. Masala

Dad dissecting Ptolemaea is gold
