Y'all should do all Taylor's features in other artists songs. Boys Like Girls is a good one where you can really see that duet style. She did one for Hannah Montana Movie as well, some tracks are just locked away for releases too like her Holiday songs

The verses refer to teams and scoreboards, and the bridge is about disillusion with the election outcome. The lyric "American glory faded before me" is pretty obvious as well :)

A lot of these songs are filled with anxiety, reputation is the “in love” album imo. She went from singing “I’d marry you with paper rings” “I don’t wanna lose you” “I don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose this with you” —> “I wouldn’t marry me either” “cause youre losin me” “I once believed love would be burning red but its golden, like daylight” —> “so long London, had a good run, a moment of warm sun” The lyric parallels for Joe songs really go crazy. I could go on and on!

It came out at a time when I was struggling with depression and the worst feelings in my life. I didn't feel these songs because I didn't feel happiness. After 5 years I am able to appreciate the greatness of this album and what Taylor was guided by when creating it. Apart from London Boy and I Think He Knows there are no songs that I would skip.

When this came out, I remember everyone I knew getting totally hooked on Lover. Like y’all said at the end here, it’s such a triumph of spirit coming off of rep and the split from the label. 2024-09-27 05:41:08 +0000 UTCLover is either hit or miss with a lot of fans, but i totally agree with you at the end, it was SUCH a breath of fresh air to hear this album for the first time in 2019 after everything she had been through prior to that. in hindsight, there are some red flags about the romantic relationship being written about in a lot of these songs that i think are missed on first listen. but overall it’s really so good. and the Lover tour was set to start in 2020 but got cancelled. and Cruel Summer was being hinted at being the next single, but then covid really turned all of our lives into a cruel summer so it was never an official single, but it has done NUMBERS.

I wonder if y’all would ever listen to Panic! at the Disco. Their early albums are iconic, essential emo pop. A lot of fans disliked how their sound changed when the other members departed (P!atD became a solo project since 2015 until the final album in 2022) but I really enjoyed the solo releases. Death of a Bachelor is still one of my no-skip albums.

I actually hated it on first listen -- I was expecting another Reputation -- but this album grew on me and is now my #1/#2. Since you liked it, fyi the live performances are INCREDIBLE - highly recommend #1 the City of Lover Paris show or #2 the BBC Radio One live performance. Either streamed or on your own time, very worth it.
