I keep coming back to this video to watch it. I love your comparisons to Michael Jackson and the Beatles I would love it if you chose one of their albums to listen. I feel like it’d be great for you to put us on to those.

Na

You becoming a Swiftie is quite possibly my favorite thing to have come out of this - "I'll explain it" when Dad asks about Travis lol

Meagan Muller

So funny that you keep mentioning the "beachy" feel because when the album came out it was very city vibes, but with this re-release even the cover is beachy which is a switch but interesting that you pick up on that from the music!

Meagan Muller

Swiftie vibes at the wedding were HIGH! Hearing Michael sing all the words to Love Story was one of the highlights of my night!! Hand hearts to you guys - love you!!

Meagan Muller

Kesha is another one of my favorite artists! Her Rainbow album (and tour) were so good!! Can't seem to get into her latest album though

Meagan Muller

I've been a Taylor fan since this album's release in 1989 LOL

Meagan Muller

I love your reactions so much! I like to think that her pop albums are timeless, but I forget that if you weren't there at the time of the release then you don't get the context. For example, Taylor really had only a couple pop hits, she was mostly country. She changed completely, her look, her music, everything to fit this album. It was mind blowing to us to hear pop hit after pop hit. I was in LOVE with this album, because we all knew she had it in her to become a pop superstar, and she did. I'm afraid the next album, reputation, needs context of the time period as well, or you can't fully appreciate the sound/lyrics. I would 100% recommend watching Miss Americana on Netflix, or watch some videos to get up to speed what happened to Taylor between her albums 1989 and reputation (2015-2017). For example, media shaming and Kim/Kanye phone call. It really shaped reputation to be the album it is.

Brianna

Dad saying how much he loved “say don’t go” and wondering why it didn’t make it on the album as it was SO GOOD… read the intro to the album! This is the album released after Red where her identity of being an artist that only sings breakup songs and dates everyone, runs them off and then writes a song about them (the Blank Space theme!!!) she said in the intro that at this time in her career she thought “oh wow they think all I care about is guys and my craft is being reduced to my relationships, I’m going to prove them wrong. If I only hang out with my girlfriends and focus on my female friendships and having fun being young they won’t have anything negative to say about me. Well we see that now didn’t work and they crucified her anyways (insert Reputation Era). During 1989 era Taylor dated Harry Styles (who Out of the Woods is about) and had all these feeling and pain and joy around that relationship so she wrote the music, but didn’t include it in her album because she wanted so badly to be respected for her craft, talent and incredible success rather than whatever man she is seen with at the time. All the vault tracks are about Harry except for maybe Suburban Legends, if you take it at face value and assume it’s about a high school romance. however, I suspect she’s speaking more metaphorically, like “life is classroom” and the reunion is not in the class reunion sense but more of award shows, events, etc. “is it over now” is the a more specific “out of the woods”! “Slut!” is her feeling this relationship might actually be worth all the hate she gets from the public every time she dates someone. Anyways, sorry for the novel, love watching you guys so much!

Mandi

Love seeing your reactions! Even when you don't like the song lol I may check out your other content while I wait for more taylor....can't wait for the Reputation reaction!

April Green

Came here to say this! Kesha is still around and has some great albums out!

April Green

loved the video! i watched the whole thing while my bf slept next to me, can't believe he didn't wake up because i was singing along to every song. it's funny to me that you two are not familiar with the story behind this album, because i know it like the back of my hand. i mean, imagine NOT knowing about the 20 stitches or the blue dress on a boat. well, i enjoyed this taylor marathon a LOT and i'm so sad you guys are taking a break because these videos truly made my day, but i understand. when you feel like listening to one of her albums again, i hope you react to midnights til dawn, it's like 1989s older sister!

Emilie

Thank you! please react to 'Midnights Til Dawn' edition. because this is the edition that has all the songs that she made for the album 'Midnights' and this version has the best song off of Midnights, that are NOT included in the regular or other versions of the album,

Tal

I would love to see the two of you do a video reacting to Taylor's music videos, too. So many of them are theatrical storytelling masterpieces and on par with major motion pictures as far as quality and special effects. Out of the Woods is insanely impressive.

Danielle B

Please react to her Midnights album next! The "Til Dawn Edition" is the album version that contains ALL the songs :)

KO

I am the last person to deny the formulaic/repetitive pattern that Taylor seems to fall into when she’s working with Max Martin. I noticed it the repetitive lyrics on Red at first, ironically enough (by the time we got to “know you better, know you better, know you better” that was it for me for a long time. Love it now, tho, especially Taylor’s Version). And I completely agree on Clean and Wonderland (So. Good.) But I was disappointed with how you pretty much dismissed the lyrics in the first half of the album as just a bunch of hooks to get a hit. I know you got it with the live version of Out of the Woods, but I hope when you’re feeling better and have some rest that you go at least read through the lyrics for the rest of the first half with an open mind. She’s really saying a lot about her emotions and a relationship, it just has a very pop production (and a bunch of repetitive choruses, no question). Taylor pushing the pop formula is arguably a big part of the reason that we expect pop today to have some substance lyrically - she just had to learn the formula (which she did in 1989) before she could break it.

Nicole Gordon

Love the reactions and the comments, as always!!! When you guys decide to react to Taylor again, please, please, please do Midnights!!!

Caren Beatriz Firão

You guys made a great observation about how “pop hit” heavy this album is. Taylor was disappointed by the criticism Red was getting about being inconsistent with the sound/direction it went in and didn’t get as many accolades as previous albums (bc her previous record label wanted to keep her in Country music even though she was already making the shift to pop). So she went I to 1989 wanted to make it as concise as possible to the point she wrote the music differently. She had been writing lyrics first then the musicality where as for 1989 she knew she wanted to make it a modern 80s pop album and wrote most of the lyrics 2nd to the music/production being crafted first. So in my opinion it shows on the main body of the album that it is close to a “generic pop album” bc that’s kind of what she wanted but I like that these vault songs get more personal/vulnerable and aren’t as upbeat pop songs like “blank space” or “shake it off”. Also loved the comment how “Slut!” Sounded like Miami Vice bc it does sound to me like an opening song to a beach movie/show.

Rachel B

For some really brief context around 1989 - Taylor’s label was discouraging her interest in the Pop genre, as she was a country artist. This is why Red is a bit jumbled between the country/pop songs. She lost album of the year at the Grammy’s for Red and woke up that night with the concept for a cohesive Pop album and went on to win Album of the Year for 1989

Marli Kauffman

I was almost 21 when this album came out and now I’m about to turn 30. 1989 is an album that defined and stayed with me through almost a decade of my life. It was so fun to listen to Taylor’s Version for the first time because I felt like I was 20 again 😂 and now I get to start my 30s out with a new appreciation for this album 🥰

Mary M

Loved your reaction! I had to laugh when your dad thought the lyric in Blank Space was starburst lovers because it was a whole thing back in 2014 when people thought the lyric was Starbucks lovers so he wasn’t too far off lol

Ali Hannig

Spot on with the commentary about how she pivoted & leaned in hard to the 80s synth. She did a NOW Listening Session with the Taylor Grammy Museum too that you’d probably enjoy. First <10 mins really walks you through that.

M

I wonder if your dad would enjoy the Grammy Museum performance of Blank Space more than the original recording? I think probably, plus there’s an explanation!

Bella B

Love this video :) My favorites are also the more slowed-down ones but I think that's my preference. This Love, Clean and You Are In Love are some of my favorite Taylor songs. I think you guys would love Midnights. Hope you react to it soon

Olivia S

I was cracking up when you were both questioning if people looked up police reports on the crash referenced in Out of the Woods! Swifties definitely know the truth on that but police reports were not required. I’ll just give you two words: Harry. Styles.

Meghan Glogoza

Loved this video!!! This album can sound more like something you’ve heard before, less inventive or deep but we have heard it!! So it was a lot more standout at the time and then affected the pop after it. When you hear it for the first time in 2023, it could be like.. wait hasn’t this been done before? Also, Kendrick and Taylor’s friendship is really sweet. You should look up some of the videos on how they got working together, if you’re interested. Taylor was a big fan, posted an instagram of her rapping backseat freestyle 😂 and Kendrick saw it, I think there’s some interviews of his talking about it. I think that’s where it all started. But they were competing for the Grammy for this album, when she won, she ran to Kendrick to hug him right away which I always thought was really sweet. He’s amazing!! He deserved that Grammy too.

Giorgia M

Always enjoy seeing someone discovering Taylor Swift for the first time so to speak. I'm a Rep girl at heart, but 1989 is for sure a close first. Love them both. Can't wait to see ya'll do Reputation 🤭👀. Blank Space the satire is just so good. Not a single song on this album that I dislike. 10/10 🫶🏻.

Caroline Farley

Additionally! I know you've done the Out of the Woods Grammy Museum performance, but there is a sit down portion of that appearance which kind of walks through the thought and the process that resulted in 1989, which I think may provide insight to your thoughts about growing from the sound of 1989 vs growing into the sound of 1989 and how she came to fully commit to the pop sound ! Highly highly recommend, it's not too long either that first interview part :)

Philippa

I LOVE This Love and Clean. Best songs on the album IMO.

Cassandra Schultz

On your question of how much is about her and how much is created for the purposes of lyrics and creation of songs - the majority (almost all) of her writing up until Folklore/Evermore (so this includes Debut, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation and Lover) are autobiographical - there are usually a couple of songs on each album that aren't strictly about her own life, they may be inspired by others in her life (Speak Now the song, Ronan, You are in love), or about her daydreaming/wishful thinking for herself (stay stay stay, Mary's song). Blank Space was the closest to being a made up story, but again it is the flipping of the media persona about her into lyrical satire. So for 1989, all the songs except You are in love are from her own life and story :)

Philippa

Kendrick is Taylor’s favorite rapper. You guys should check out the video for Bad Blood they made when it first came out, he’s in it along with some crazy famous females!!!! Also please please please now that we have a minute before the next re-record do Midnights 3am Edition🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 literally begging for it lol

Caitlin Green

“Is that a guitar?” had me laughing so hard! Love you guys 🤍

dodolotr

I agree! Back half of this album is my favorite and I really think this is the STRONGEST set of vault songs. None of them felt unfinished. They all felt like songs that were complete when OG 1989 came out but didn’t make the album (likely bc they were a bit more overtly negative about a relationship and that wasn’t the vibe for the complete album that she went with)

Emma Brilleslyper

Speaking of Kesha, you guys should check out her Rainbow album up until her newest. You won’t believe the artist and songwriter she has become! Nothing like her old sound.

Meghan Hameister

Great reaction as always! 🫶🏼 after hearing your appreciation for the sound of the vault tracks, I feel like Midnights would be such a great follow up to your Taylor journey! Midnights was Taylor’s first full Jack Antonoff produced album and the vault from 1989 TV was all produced by him so there are similarities with the production style. Many think of it as 1989’s older sister. Lol I know this journey could be draining at some point so no rush with the reactions! Haha just happy that you get to enjoy and appreciate her music! 🫶🏼

nicole

Important to note that she wrote this album after losing album of the year at the Grammys for Red so she thought in order to be successful she needed to make a big change; while they’re definitely designed to be hits, these songs are still largely based on her experiences so she’s not fabricating for the sake of the hook

Mara Stoll

So yeas out of the woods is repetitive in a pop kind of way but it’s also repetitive in a frantic, anxiety/panic, pacing back and forth kind of way because it’s about the high profile nature of her relationship with Harry Styles (who did get in a car crash with her lol) and how it was doomed from the start because of the press but she kept hoping it would work out

Mara Stoll

YES! Now I need the reaction to the album "midnight", it was also produced by jack and I believe you will like it. (many swifties are talking about the similarity of the albums musically after the re-recording was produced by him)

Anna

Me laughing because we do know the explanation for the stitches lyrics 😂 she got in a snowmobile accident with Harry styles hahaha

Molly C

Welcome to New York - her moving to the city Blank space- making fun of medias portrayal of her dating Style - a relationship that you keep coming back to Out of the woods - is about her anxiety with dating harry styles and yes they really did get in a accident lol All you had to do was stay - either leave for good or stay for good I wish you would - wanting a past lover to come back after you broke up Bad blood- about her feud with katy perry Wildest dreams - Taylor sings about wanting to be remembered by a ex This love- this song teaches us that if a lost love is strong enough it’ll come back to you when the time’s right I know places- feeling pressure due to media always following her and a lover around Clean- the process of losing her ex-lover she was cleansed of burden and so she found a better version of herself Wonderland - a whirlwind relationship that fell down a rabbit hole. You are in love - written about jack antonoff and his wife at the time lena. New romantics - her new approach to love

Rhonwen Wight

Oh dear I have a feeling your dad is not going to enjoy reputation from these first few songs 🫣

Rhonwen Wight

Yay! finally
