Progress Report
Added 2023-08-31 14:34:54 +0000 UTCGreetings, everyone!
Because tomorrow is the first of the month, and supporters on Patreon often run into trouble with their subscriptions on their day, which causes issues with access to posts, I'm posting this progress report one day early. We'll be back to the regularly scheduled posts next week.
Since last week, I have implemented the game's main menu and made it possible to not only start but also play the entirety of Michael's initial prologue chapter. The game's prologue/intro will stretch across multiple chapters before you even get to a title screen due to the setup necessary for a story of this scope, but the first part is now in-game and fully playable, at the very least. It still needs some polish and animation, and the music is missing, but it's still incredibly satisfying to finally see Supermodel as a visual novel after all this focus on card mechanics.
Speaking of music, I expect to spend most of the next few weeks working on the soundtrack. The first version alone will require a lot of music, and it's best if I'm "in the zone" as deeply as possible for this. A lot of the music is already done due to the work on Snapshot, and I have two other finished pieces of music ready that nobody has heard yet. But still more is needed. The one part of the soundtrack that really makes me nervous is the main theme, which I still haven't decided on yet. But I'm getting there. At least I know that I want it to sound like the theme song to a superhero movie, for whatever that's worth.
Finally, I have done more research in preparation for the bulk of the writing still ahead. This new research focused on Dr. Sybil Hawkins due to the challenges of convincingly writing a genius character and making her appear authentic. I want to show you that she's brilliant, not just tell you about it. Writing a character more intelligent than yourself can be ludicrously challenging to pull off, hence why so many major movies, games, and TV shows fail to do it right. I want to be better than that.
There isn't much else to say or show off this time. Development naturally goes through ebbs and flows where not everything is easily presentable to those not actively involved in development.
