Below the Salt
Added 2024-05-22 16:49:29 +0000 UTCAfter riding in Africa and Asia, it was time to explore a bit more of Europe. I looked for countries that had a good train network and interesting scenery. Then I remembered Slovakia, I was there a few times, and every time I was thinking, man, I should ride here. Good trains, nice scenery and the regulations around the railroad were pretty loose.
I decided with Ekton to do it together, after all, he hadn't been away for a while either and was looking forward to a trip. Aki came along too, since Vienna, the city where he lives, is only an hour's drive from our starting point.
There we were, the three of us waiting in the long grass next to the tracks, looking out on a rusty fence and enjoying the last rays of sunshine. Chatting about what our lives have been like these past few months. It is special, having friends you only see once or twice a year, from completely different countries. But as we sit there together, waiting for a train, it seems like those long periods where we didn't see each other were never there.
Night fell and the full moon illuminated the field around us. In the distance we heard the hiss of brakes. Silently we crept closer to the train, alert and sharp we watched and listened, every sound and shadow being contemplated. Finally, we reach the wagon and jump in, the train leaves. Here we go, deeper into Slovakia, or not?

Years ago, my high school choral group visited this salt mine & did an "impromptu" voice recital in one of the "large" rooms. It was an experience I almost forgotten, but your wonderful offering "rekindled" this long forgotten memory. I sincerely appreciate this offering, and look forward to all your future films to come.
