Paladin - Oath of Unity

Share Your Power With Your Oathmate

The Oath of Unity is taken by Paladins devoted to others, particularly one whom they hold most dear. The Paladin and this Oathmate enact a ceremony that binds their energy together with divine magic, allowing them to share each other's strengths. The ritual is often compared to a marriage ceremony, and some who take the oath do so with their partner or spouse. Such a powerful bond can uplift both Oathmates, as well any inspired by their devotion to one another. United, they can overcome any challenge.

Tenets of Unity

Paladins that swear the Oath of Unity hold their bond to their Oathmate beyond any other, but also strive to uplift all who cherish their own bonds to one another.

Elevation. Lend your strength to others to lift them beyond their own limits.

Protection. Safeguard those you are bound to, both by oath or by kinship.

Loyalty. Keep your friends, family, and soulmates in your heart.

Oath of Unity Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of Unity Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Oath of Unity Spells

Paladin Level

Oathmates

3rd level Oath of Unity feature.

You can use your Channel Divinity to imbue a favor with your divine power. Another creature can attune to this favor as though by a magic item, however it doesn’t count towards the total number of items that creature is attuned to. When they do, you and the attuned creature become Oathmates for as long as they remain attuned and have the favor on their person. You can imbue an item that already requires attunement this way. As long as your Oathmate remains attuned to your favor, you both gain the following features:

Tethered Souls. You know the direction of your Oathmate as long as you remain on the same plane of existence.

Empowering Bond. While within 15 feet of each other, you can each use your own class features treating your Oathmate as yourselves, so long as the other creature takes an appropriate action to do so.

[For instance, if an Oathmate Fighter hits with an attack, their Oathmate Paladin can use their Divine Smite on the Fighter’s attack. In 5e 2024, the Fighter would spend their Bonus Action to cast the Divine Smite, while the Paladin would spend their spell slot to cast the spell.]

You can only have one favor imbued this way at a time. Creating a new one ends the effect on the last favor you created with this feature.

Shield of Unity

3rd level Oath of Unity feature.

You can channel your oath to protect those you care for. When you or another creature you can see within 30 feet of you is hit by an attack roll, you can take a Reaction using your Channel Divinity to grant a bonus to the target’s AC against that attack, potentially causing it to miss. The bonus equals your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1).

If the creature hit by the attack is your Oathmate and this feature causes the attack to miss, you can also spend a spell slot to deal 1d8 radiant damage to the attacker. The damage increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 1.

Uplifting Aura

7th level Oath of Unity feature.

Your presence uplifts all around you. When a creature starts its turn within your Aura of Protection, you can choose to grant that creature Temporary Hit Points equal to your Charisma Modifier (minimum 1). If the creature is your Oathmate, that creature gains twice as many temporary hit points.

Unbreakable Bonds

15th level Oath of Unity feature.

Your bonds with your allies, and with your Oathmate, have strengthened.

Whenever you use your Shield of Unity feature, all creatures have Disadvantage on Attack Rolls against the target until the end of your next turn.

Additionally, your favor grants you and your Oathmate the following additional features:

Spellbound. Whenever each of you cast a spell that targets only one of you, you can choose to have it target both Oathmates instead. Additionally, whenever one of you would expend a Spell Slot, the other can choose to expend one of their spell slots of the appropriate level in its place.

Tag Team. Whenever one of you takes the Attack Action, you can each forgo any of your own attacks to allow your Oathmate to make an attack instead. Additionally, while your Oathmate and the target of either of your attacks are within your Aura of Protection, you each have advantage on attack rolls made against the target.

Soulmates

20th level Oath of Unity feature.

As a Bonus Action, you grant yourself and your Oathmate the benefits below for 10 minutes or until either of you end them (no action required). You can end them independently of one another. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest. You can also restore your use of it by expending a spell slot of 5th level or higher (no action required).

Inspiring Union. You and creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you gain Inspiration (Heroic Inspiration) at the start of each of your turns.

Shared Strengths. You add your Oathmate’s Ability Modifiers to any calculation requiring your own (minimum 0).
