“I know that look,” Daddy had said.
Gulp.
It wasn’t fair that Daddy could read Missy’s face like a book, that he could practically read her mind. She was a grown up, at least on paper, but with him her face gave up all her secrets and she couldn’t get away with anything.
“You were planning on being naughty while I was out tonight, weren’t you?” Daddy asked, looking directly at Missy.
Her eyes were puddles that revealed all, but she tried, anyways, to lie, shaking her head. “No!”
“Baby,” he said, resting a hand on his hip. “If you’re going to try and fib, at least don’t let me see that you’re crossing your fingers. I think you need a little reminder what naughty girls get, before you go and do something that gets you into real trouble. Come on, get on my lap.”
She bit her lip, but knew that disobedience would just make things worse.
“We’re going to go to ten,” Daddy warned. “And if you still try and do something naughty while I’m gone, then when I get back, we’ll go to a hundred. Okay? Now, start counting…”
