I discovered Battle Angel Alita at the library. That was my first foray into the mangaverse, though I had read MANY comics from the library before. I still think BAA is one of the most satisfying stories I've ever read, maybe because I read almost all of it in a library.

She's going to college. I'm pretty sure she's used to the kind of attention she would get there.

See, that's what I'd think too, but experience at conventions has shown me that the presence of women around mainstream comics tends to evoke troll-like tendencies in a lot of so-called "men". :-\

I can't tell how much I think Quinn would likely have the patience for the other patrons in a comic shop. I could see her either appreciating the attention or going postal and I'm not sure which direction is more likely.

Got a local library with three awesome nerd librarians. Haven't bought a comic in years... but the wait times are hellacious. *Checked out, try again later*

No reason one has to buy all the off shoots. I stick to the main title of my favorite heroes and ignore off shoots into other titles.

The unreachable dream, they can look at women and breathe the same air that they breathe... Sharing oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, neon and other trace elements.. Why don't I just leave this with a movie title. . .

Heh, I recall hearing similar "you don't have to buy it" remarks from some of my own younger friends in regards to video games. Being older and wiser (well, wiseass-er...), I felt obliged to point out that if everyone did that, their dreams of being video game developers wouldn't pay very well. That gave 'em a few moments' pause. :3

I have gotten so much good comic reading done from the library. The entire Sandman series, Powers, Teen Titans, Spider Man, Y:The Last Man, DMZ, and many, many others. All in TPB format, and generally in good shape, too.

Just do what my wife does. She hasn't spent a single dollar on Avengers or Justice League in years. She just reads my copies...

"A poor man's library would also be... a library. :P" also...many libraries purchase the comics in hard-bound "library editions".
