Mausoleum. In Waterdeep's City of the Dead lies many family mausoleums. The graveyard is open to Waterdavians during the day and doubles as a park and public space; but closes at night as hundreds of driftglobes descend to the area for reasons unknown.
Map Notes. The initial question with this map was how to situate the mausoleum within the City of the Dead. After referencing some wikis about the city of the dead I decided to keep it slightly more generic as I knew it needed to change ownership with seasons. Given the source book description about accessing the park, I knew I needed a gate, a wall, some park space and the mausoleum itself, so ended up with the layout you see here, giving lots of flexibility to DMs and players on how to approach this.
This was also my first time mapping with some new custom asset types - terrain and paths (both fairly easy to work with, thankfully!). I wanted a different, lighter sand/dirt color to do the path through the park and separate the look of it from the road; and then experimented with a dry grass path edge that would blend seamlessly with the terrain type - very pleased with the end result.
Functionality notes:
as the crypt (M2) is underground, there aren't day/night versions for that level and it is re-used between Spring and Summer
there is no Autumn map/encounter
there are LvlR and Lvl1 files for each variant - you can use the roofed "R" version while your players are far away, and switch to the "1" version once they move inside - if using Foundry see next point (might work with other systems as well!)
within the Foundry zip folders you will find roof tiles (day/night) that you can use over the Mausoleum before your players get there - either with the roofs module or the new functionality in 0.8.x versions which means you only need the Lvl1 + roof tiles
I also wanted to leave room at night for other ways of doing driftglobes - so there is a _NoGlobe_ version for all seasons as well - or if you just need a cemetery/mausoleum for your game
Files. The zip files below are organized in 3 seasons and 3x folders per season: Roll20Free for smaller 70px images; Roll20Paid for larger 140px images; FoundryVTT for 100px dd2vtt files compatible with multiple VTTs. There is an additional folder for the Printable maps which are 140px gridded images in color and black and white.
