Happy Monday, my rad dudes!
One of my creative goals for 2025 is to simplify my art further. I know that might seem counterproductive given that many will see my art as already pretty simple, but I'm seeking smoother contours, rounder choices, and less elaborate rendering. I want to do all of this in service of more inspired and dynamic themes and poses, and do some more full illustrations than I have in super recent times. Simplification in service of better, more memorable images. That's what I want.
I'm starting small with this really cute roller blader, which will be a sticker in my upcoming shop drop (aiming for a March shop drop, more info on that later). The first step was making my own reference with an anatomical figure that I want to get plenty more use of going forward:
Feel free to use this reference image for yourself if you wish!
Obviously, when going into the sketch, I wanted to make sure I was playing with proportions and perspective, but that was easy and it was super nice to have a good base to start with.
I wanted to loosen up with the sketch and I feel I achieved that here. Honestly, I wish I'd incorporated the somewhat thicker lines into the final version, but you live and you learn. I still really liked how the finished version came out!
This piece was sketched in Clip Studio Paint and inked and colored in Adobe Illustrator.
Thank you!
Drew
