Free Plans: The Two-Board Shavehorse

Friends:

I'm really excited to bring you these shavehorse plans. These are some of the longest and most detailed plans we've ever done. I worked with my designer to make every step clear and every measurement easy to read. These plans will walk you through every part of the build with total confidence.

Of course, these plans are completely FREE to Patrons (everyone else pays.)

If you'd like to look at older plans, they're all on the Discourse Plan Archive and ready for immediate download.

New video Saturday!

Free Plans: The Two-Board Shavehorse

I had thought about the same, and have been trying to think through how it would fit/work, be removable, and still would do what I want it to. Got sidetracked for a while building the English Joiner's Bench, which turned out nicely, (complete with that monstrous leg vise) then some physical problems, but I've got all the wood and hardware together now for the two board version, and I think I'll go ahead with that one.

Thank you so much for providing the plans. I was going to put a shave horse on my low roman bench, but listening to you I think Ill build a dedicated Shavehorse

Stuart Woodcock

Hi looks really good going to give it a try AFTER the travellers bench thanks for the inspiration

David Bilbe

many thanks Rex. just mentioning this because you might be interested: there's a Japanese-designed folding shavehorse somewhat similar to yours -- certainly the same materials and much the same design goals -- called the Origami Shavehorse which might be worth checking out. i have a PDF of it but unfortunately there are no translations on it, Japanese only. a few years ago they were offering the PDF for sale, not sure what the current status of that is.

2 board project, but it takes 1 1/2 boards worth of printer paper to print it out. LOL Just a little humor (very little). I love detailed plans.

Having metric is a necessity. My country should be on metric....although I do really favor Imperial for building by hand.

Good luck!

I'm glad you think so!

…. Hey ReX. I appreciate having some metric dimensions already included in the plans. Big HI and THX from Germany πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

Thank you for these plans! This shavehorse looks easier than some of the other versions I've seen.

I guess I know what I am building this weekend
