Love this one. Loved the book, too.

All the lab equipment in this movie was real. That adds so much to the feel.

When I was in high school, I asked my microbiology teacher to show this in class. He did, and I loved it - totally fascinated me. One of the great hard-science movies. I also thought about this movie during COVID.

Project Hail Mary was my fav book of 2021 by a mile!! I cried!

Great reaction, Jen! I read the book too, and yes, the film is a very faithful adaptation. I agree with your assessment that this is “hard“ science-fiction with a capital H. Interestingly, I’m speaking at a panel this weekend discussing the upcoming film adaptation of the novel “Project Hail Mary“. A lot of that novel is about scientific research and procedure, and part of the question is how that will be portrayed and film. I intend to use this film as an example.

To film the monkey scene they replaced it's oxygen with Carbon dioxide and immediately switched it back after it passed out. It looked pretty horrible but didn't actually hurt it.

The possibility of an infection from space was a genuine concern. The first three Apollo moon landing crews were quarantined for 21 days in a sealed container.

I kept thinking about this movie when I went out for groceries during the worst of COVID

This was certainly a gripping reaction Jen. I've remembered another 70s sci-fi movie that is very scientific in approach and has a similar vibe to this movie and it's called Phase IV. Excited to watch your edit for this movie 😊

This film creeped out the thirteen year old me like no other sci-fi movie.

I have watched this movie about a zillion times. It's a good movie, but for some reason this is like a warm blanket.
