Thor (2011) Full Length Reaction

We're off to the magical realm of Gods in this one and I was dazzled by everything Asgard! Cool to see the origins of mighty Thor and then to see him humbled on Earth for a while. And to see the backstory of the trickster himself Loki! This one was really fun! And now super looking forward to the next Marvel - Captain America!

BTW, in the actual Norse mythology (not the Marvel version, obviously), there are two things about Sif (who is the female warrior) that are different from this version. First, she was the wife of Thor. Second, she was known for her golden hair. There are some really wild stories from the original Norse mythology and Loki isn't always painted as a bad guy (he's a trickster god, which means he's more an agent of chaos, but he's also one of the smartest gods there, so sometimes they need his cleverness to solve problems that they have). There's one story in the original Norse mythology where Mjolnir was stolen by a giant and the giant demands to be wedded to the goddess Freya in return for the hammer. However, instead Loki shows up with Thor dressed in drag pretending to be Freya (I'm not sure, but I think Loki also dressed as a woman to disguise himself as "Freya's" handmaiden). When the giant brought Mjolnir out to bless "Freya" , Thor took it and basically killed them all.

I very much enjoyed your reaction to this one, Jen! Good to see you're enjoying the Marvel-ous ride! Kinda related point: You've heard the Babylon 5 series bandied about by several members, me included. Well, that whole series was conceived by none other than the writer of this movie, J. Michael Straczynski. It's a worthy watch whenever you're up for another sci-fi series. ;-)

When looking into the world of Loki, just remember (in Norse mythology) he is known as The God of Mischief/the Trickster... that opens up a realm of possibilities on what his abilities can range from and whether his intentions are good/bad or just in it for himself.

Yeah, you're certainly in the minority there. (Though I liked it.) CA with you Jen is sure to be a fun one as well, the first run of Marvel "origin story" movies do pretty good in focusing on one of our central characters of the Avengers in feeling their stories, what drives them and what makes them a hero.

BTW, do you know that the root of the word "Thursday" is... "Thor's Day," and the root of the word Wednesday is "Oden's Day" (Woden's Day).

heh heh.. Yes.. Thor.. Norse "god"... But then the Hulk could whoop his arse.

Really enjoyed watching Thor with you Jen. It is such an epic movie but with real heart as well. I'm definitely in the minority, but I think the second Thor movie is the best of them ha ha Looking forward to Captain America. That one is definitely my favourite of all the MCU movies. Can't wait to watch it with you 😊

An absolutely Thor-oughly entertaining movie! 😁 Glad you liked as much as I did in it's first run. Looking forward to your further enjoyment of the MCU!

ah thor. the movie where captain kirk's dad falls in love with luke skywalker's mom odin took his powers, but he was nice enough to give him a way back if he earns it i always felt like he still had a small amount of super strength and durability since you're far enough in futurama to get this, the hammer weighs about as much as nibbler's poop which is why only those worthy can move it. the name donald blake was from the comics. he was thor/the human wielding the power of thor for the longest time. tony is busy with the end of iron man 2 at this point thor doesn't usually fly exactly. he throws the hammer and then holds onto it. loki wanted to kill laufie in a room with witnesses so he could make himself look better and to justify a genocide against the frost giants in general loki is weaker than thor physically but he is far smarter and has much better magic, and the spear is probably making the gap smaller. in actual mythology thor is married to sif. the movie is a bit unclear on if the asgardians are actually gods or if they're just aliens that ancient humans worshiped as gods and if that difference actually matters.
