Ep 4 this week was all about Ellie and Joel bonding more and it was really nice to spend an entire ep with them and see them develop a connection. Ep 5's ending got me and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. 2 more next week!

Just watched this one and, holy fuck, that ending was so shocking. Like you, I held out a little hope that maybe her blood would help. I was also hoping, just for a second, that maybe Sam was playing around acting like he was infected, but seeing how crazed he was dashed that hope just as quick. Kathleen really did seem unhinged and bereft of any humanity, if she had any to begin with. Her speech about kids dying was reprehensible and, at that point, i was like "you need to get your ass handed to you", which I'm actually glad she got hers in the end. Old proverb about vengeance: "If you're looking to kill someone out of revenge, first dig two graves."

2025-02-27 05:52:08 +0000 UTCNice reaction Jen. Henry and Sam contribute to pivotal character development for Joel and Ellie. Sam and Tess deaths progressively weight heavily on Ellie. Not just survivor's guilt but the fact that she can't save people she cares about. At this point she's more focused on her mission to get herself to the doctors as illustrated at the end when she was ready to go before Joel was. Joel, on the other hand, is starting to feel the growing attachment to Ellie. Henry's suicide is a warning to Joel that he might not be able to handle separation or if anything happens to Ellie.

I couldn't believe it when you said you thought the show might introduce other characters we care about so they can kill them off instead of Joel and Ellie. 😢 You're getting too good at this, girl! To answer a few questions: - Yes, the show soundtrack is mostly taken from the game soundtrack composed by Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel). The opening credits theme song is also the main theme song for the game. In fact, the opening credits of the show are almost identical to the opening credits of the game. - The big dude that came out of the ground at the end is called a Bloater in the game. Basically, when an infected is stuck underground for a long time and exposed to a lot of water and moisture the fungus grows rapidly and the body starts to bloat up to a huge size, like a dead body in water. Then the fungus hardens and creates like an armor around the body. They’re often used as mini-boss fights in the game. - Fun fact: the guy that plays Perry in the show (Kathleen’s right hand man, the silver fox that gets his head ripped off by the bloater) also played Tommy in the games. - Additional fun fact: the sequence where they find the underground school is even more fleshed out in the game with a lot more backstory, and is known as the “story of Ishmael” which they very briefly reference in the episode. It’s interesting to me to see how they adapted the story of Henry and Sam in the show because I think it adds a lot more depth and mirrors the ending for Joel and Ellie in a lot of ways that it really didn’t in the game. The idea of Henry’s decision making him a bad guy or not because he did it for Sam is a big theme, arguably the main theme of the story, and I really like what they did with that in the show.

2025-02-23 07:31:12 +0000 UTCGood thumbnail. Agree that Ep4 was a welcomed good "developmental" episode for the Joel/Ellie relationship. Ep4 also depicted the dark side of humanity. In Ep 5, after shooting Sam, Henry should have went with Joel and Ellie. "endure and survive" got lost on Sam and Henry.

2025-02-23 06:17:55 +0000 UTCWhen they were camping and Ellie asked Joel if anyone would find them, Joel realized she was scared, so he stood guard all night. That's why he was drinking so much coffee the next day. He didn't sleep any that night. By the time they were going to sleep at the end of the episode, Joel had been up for 2 days straight, so he was exhausted and let his guard down a bit. That's why he was laughing at Ellie's pun. Then when they were sleeping, he had rolled over and was sleeping on his good ear, so that's why he didn't hear them coming. So many little details they put in. Ellie hadn't mentioned Joel's hearing until the end of the ep, but there were earlier scenes where she had to call his name louder a 2nd time for him to respond.
