The World's End (2013) Full Length Reaction

Finally finishing off the Cornetto trilogy! Wasn't expecting to see Pegg playing the slacker and Frost playing the straight man this time, and I wasn't sure what the twist would be but I figured there would be one! Did these guys do other movies together that we should check out?

The World's End (2013) Full Length Reaction

I absolutely love the sudden cut to The Housemartins at the end.

+1 for Spaced. It's on your hard drive. Laugh-a-minute, zany, 20-somethings sitcom, full of pop culture references.

That was a laugh, I hadn't seen before. Fun reaction. πŸ˜… 15:28 You'd really like The Three Musketeers' films, there are many versions. All based on the books by Alexandre Dumas (author of The Count of Monte Cristo). The two 1970s film versions have big stars of the time, were popular and were well received. The critics didn't like the 90s remakes but they were very big box office hits / audiences loved. I'd *love* to see 70s Musketeers here. They are absolute swashbuckler classics. Since you enjoyed World's End, I'd recommend sci-fi thriller/horror 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1978). It's a remake of a 50s movie with the same name but is still hugely influential and well regarded and it's only a 15 cert, so not too bad for you. :) Highly recommended UK sitcom 'Spaced' (1999-2001) with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, etc. From same team that created Cornetto Trilogy. In fact, this series' success was what led to the films being greenlit. It's a short, fast paced show. Both series are on the hard drive. The World's End Soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHuREHmGs2urvm3ZYROHTRBF1U6Oy8TXN The song you liked from the start of the movie with the talkie dialog intro from an old movie is called 'Loaded' by the Scottish rock band Primal Scream. Shout out for the awesomely good Sisters of Mercy - 'This Corrosion', which you hear playing in the movie's background at 1:29:25 and at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-RVJyNpfDk

Another vote for Spaced. It's only 6 episodes per season so you'd be able to get through them very quickly.

Collinson

Paul would be good too!

Joanthan Skidmore

As others say, gotta do Paul. So great.

Guy Gordon

I definitely did it a couple of times, but your post-credit assessment about it being a bit darker with the vaguely upbeat staging and style, I'd love to recommend The Suicide Squad - 2021, most people probably wouldn't go for the first, non-Gunn movie. I think you said you watched the Guardians movies at some point, and they all drive home his particular style here: grotesque, gratuitous (even with the PG-13 rated flicks) but seriously heartfelt films (and shows with Peacemaker, recommended even more so than TSS) that don't use humor as a crutch but more as a decoy to bury some seriously reflective and somber moments. There's a bunch out there, but this is immediately what comes to mind for me. If you actually haven't watched the Guardians movies... they're pretty much self-contained and worth the watch on their own merits, even if you don't want to (re-)dive into the whole MCU franchise web. No idea about the difficulty of reacting to it on YT in particular, but as far as I can tell, fan-engagement is a major part of their business strategy. Shouldn't be the worst. And if you want the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost stuff: Paul is fantastic indeed, and Tintin (as in the comic book series) directed by Steven Spielberg features them as VAs.

Good finish to the trilogy. Always in the mood for a sci-fi alien invasion body snatcher adventure spoof! πŸ˜„ +1 for watching Paul (2011), better known as "Pegg and Frost Go to Roswell". 🀣

lol I forgot all about this movie, excellent choice! I'm going on a Cupid Is Stupid bar crawl tomorrow, hope we do better than these guys lol

Eh Paul was my least favorite of their films together. I was so hyped then so disappointed after seeing it.

BJ Stephens

Exactly like the other two movies, the later stuff is telegraphed earlier on. For instance, the bar where Oman was replaced was the same one that was the last pub that he went to on the original pub crawl before passing out, Also, remember what Andy said about being teetotaler and going into a bar after a rugby match walking up to a bar full of big ugly bastards covered in war paint and ordering a tap water? How did the movie end? With Gary King and his crew walking into a pub and ordering tap water. My favorite line in the movie is "What the fuck does WTF mean?" That and when "The Network" (voiced by Bill Nighy BTW, so yes, he was in all 3 movies as well) just game up and said "Fuck it." BTW, like you, when I originally saw this, I went in completely blind. I heard later that the previews for the movie spoiled the alien invasion twist.

Chris Biebel

Did you notice the names of the pubs reflect the activity that takes place at each one?

John DiGiantomasso

Spaced is SOOO GOOD. So fun and creative. Great to see early work from Edgar/Simon/Nick and imagine how much fun they must have had back in the day. I might be a little nostalgic for the late 90s but I think given the context, Jen would love it.

+1 for Spaced

They also did the series Truth Seekers on Amazon. It was really good, but only got one season. Worth a watch.

i'd love to see you do a watch through of Edgar Wright's TV show Spaced sometime, which came before he started directing films and features Nick and Simon, amongst a bunch of other great British comedic character actors. You can definitely see his directing and editing style right through all 3 seasons. One of the episodes had a really short zombie dream sequence that was the original inspiration for Shaun of the Dead. Probably my least favourite of the trilogy but I thankfully had a delivery earlier so i'll be getting nicely toasted in about half an hours time, which i'm sure will help things along.

Patrick

Yup. Watching this now! Thanks, Jen.

Jeremy Vickers

Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to watching your reaction to this one Jen , I already know it's going to be πŸ”₯ the thumbnail says so πŸ™‚ . They have done a couple of other movies together PAUL which is great and right up your alley and SLAUGHTERHOUSE RULEZ which I haven't actually seen so would be cool checking it out for the first time with you πŸ‘Œ

Ian
