This ratty space station destroyed our warship lets attack them! Cardassians are not the brightest group of aliens, almost packled in their train of thought but more eloquent or so they think

I was hoping to watch the full reaction after buying a membership, but it's locked unless I pay an additional fee. 😪

Great reaction Jen. It took me a few episodes, but I really learned to appreciate this series and its diverse characters. A major aspect of this show is the growth of the characters

if you ever react to Ted 2. look out for some familiar star trek actors.

Still be best Trek. The first season is kinda hit or miss, but the second season starts with a banger and it feels like the show just builds and builds from there.

And so it begins. We are blessed for the next two plus years.

Like TNG, DS9 had to find its groove. Once it did, it took off starting with season 3.

Probably my favorite Star Trek and one of my favorite opening themes… this show has people actually living in the Star Trek world not just federation officers

Its also notable as being one of the earlier examples of a black single father being a good parent in media, and helped (somewhat, as it still exists) push back against the stereotype.
DS9 pulls no punches, its highly emotional and goes places that weren't common back in the 90's. In many ways it was far more progressive then any other Trek show (even the modern ones).

I love your TNG reactions but I joined because I was excited for you to get to DS9. I hope this brings more people from Youtube over here!

Even by Season 2 they were already dealing with several mini story arcs.

The first couple seasons are decent but it really ramps up in 3 and 4.

Looks like a lot of your fans are looking forward to this I'm going to see you on the other side it did nothing for me but I have been reading a lot of the comments. I gave it only the first two seasons and I know people are saying they loved it but I couldn't get into it but. I now read that the last seasons were really well done so I don't know.. I'm looking forward to Voyager.... And I was even an Enterprise fan... But deep space nine never

So the biggest question remains: will Jen be getting some new DS9 era uniforms for watchalongs?

Still the best pilot episode of a Trek series in my opinion.

As stated by others, Roddenberry was too ill at this point and had no input on DS9. Ira Stephen Behr was the main driving force behind DS9 and really wanted to step outside the hard and fast rules Roddenberry had. Maybe the biggest departure for DS9 from other Star Trek shows is the series long story arc. The arc shows up very sparsely the first few seasons but by season 4 it's mentioned at least almost every epsiode and gets even more involved the last couple seasons.
Other breaks from Roddenberry's vision that play a big role in this series are war and religion.
Everyone has their own sensibilities but, for me, this is peak Star Trek. I was a freshman in high school when this show started and it would run in my area Sunday nights at 1030PM. I became hooked and watched the whole thing. Earlier Star Treks just wouldnt keep me engaged with the standalone episodes.
DS9 also has some of the most developed and complicated characters of any Star Trek show or movie. It's a great ride. Hope you enjoy it.

It did mean they could break some of his hard rules that they were working with during TNG - namely, interpersonal conflict between main cast members. I imagine it would have been difficult making a show that portrays the Federation not at its best under those guidelines!

...to answer your question from the beginning: Gene Roddenberry knew that Paramount wanted a spin off since TNG was so successful and soon to change to the cinema screens. But he was already to ill to be involved in the development.
