Hopkins as Van Helsing in Depalma’s Dracula! (not to mention a career Apex performance by the great Gary Oldman as the titular vampire…) and the supporting cast?!? OMG just look it up. It is also satisfyingly faithful to the book.

Your fireplace looks super relaxing..I wanna join you for a watchalong

"No, I wouldn't do that to an animal." 😂

Solid reaction / great 90s survival film! It's been a fave of mine since release. Touching scene with Alec Baldwin at the end and with Anthony Hopkins' dialog to the press. Further David Mamet; - Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) - Heist (2001) Further Anthony Hopkins; - Magic (1978) - Mutiny on The Bounty (1984 / with Mel Gibson) - The Elephant Man (1984) - Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992 / supporting role) - Red Dragon (2002 / please pay Dr. Lecter another visit) - Hannibal (2001) - Westworld S1 (2016) - The Father (2020) Survival, animal movies; - The Grey (2011 / Liam Neeson) - The Plague Dogs (1982) This would probably be heart-breaking for you, animated children's action/adventure film, based on the novel which was written by Richard Adams [Watership Down]. Two dogs escape from a laboratory and are hunted as possible carriers of the bubonic plague.

There's a great water filtering device you can buy called the 'Life Straw'. It's incredible.

Jen, check out "The Gray" with Liam Neeson.

The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)

This was a good pick. I remember seeing this movie in TV around 2000 and really liking it, but kind of forgot about it since. Great reaction too. I’m no wilderness survival expert, but there’s one thing I do know: drinking directly from lakes or rivers can be risky due to microorganisms and other contaminants. It’s essential to purify the water first, whether by using some water filters if you have them with you, or boiling it. Drinking untreated water should only be a last resort. Streams, particularly those that are fast-flowing and at high altitudes, are generally safer to drink untreated, but there’s still some level of risk involved.

Great movie, great Mamet script. Just upvoted Glengarry Glen Ross on Jen's website for more fantastic dialogue. CSB: I got the chance to work on a few film projects with Bart the Bear's brother (son?) Tank and visit the grounds where they live -- literally in cages in their trainer's back yard. It's a trip being so close to an uncaged bear when they come out on set.. They can seem so mellow when the trainer is with them on set, but as soon as they show the slightest hint being frustrated or agitated after a few takes, the trainer has to remind everyone that this is a wild animal and back in the cage they go to mellow out.

Almost Idiocracy time!!! 😜🤘

Bart the Bear is perhaps one of Hollywood's most remarkable animal stars. The Alaskan brown bear was born in 1977 and was brought in by Utah animal trainer Doug Seus. Bart started to train in acting in 1980, has 21 acting credits between 1980-1998, and grew to 9′ 7½″ tall (2.93 m) Trivia: Weighed over 1,700 pounds as an adult. Bart was of the Kodiak Bear subspecies from the island on coastal Alaska, where many bears grow to be enormous. However, he frequently played inland Brown Bears, among which it is very rare to attain a size as large as Bart's. Bart has the unique distinction of appearing (with owner/trainer Doug Seus) at the 70th Academy Awards ceremonies to present the 'oversized' envelope for "Best Sound Effects Editing" for Titanic (1997) to category presenter Mike Myers (March 23, 1998 / Shrine Auditorium Los Angeles). His brother's name is Tank. Bart died during the filming of the documentary Growing Up Grizzly (2001) which was presented by Brad Pitt

"The Father" 2020 For an amazing Anthony Hopkins film, he won the academy award for best actor

Matt

"The Revenant" 2015 For another wintry survival with a bear, Leonardo DiCaprio won the academy award for best actor

Matt

Razorback (1984). What a weird movie.

Grga Pitic

More wintry wilderness survival/action movies Deadly Pursuit, aka Shoot to Kil (1988) Society of the Snow (2023) Death Hunt (1981) The Way Back (2010)

Good reaction. There's a lot of good man vs nature movies; I actually like the documentary, Grizzly Man, a whole lot. For Anthony Hopkins I very much enjoy the puppet-horror movie Magic.

Noremac

2018's Arctic is a hugely underappreciated survival film. And while it's not exactly a "survival" film, 1983's Never Cry Wolf is an wonderfully crafted wilderness film.

Guy Gordon

Couple of survival classics worth checking out: Walkabout - 70's Australian outback survival with great atmosphere Flight of the Phoenix - Desert survival with James Stewart and a great cast (there's a modern remake which isn't as good)

Batguano

Oh man yeah I forgot the Revenant... nice suggestion!

Mike Fox

The Gray with Liam Neeson is a good survival movie with wolves one of my favorites.

When I was a kid I had a recurring dream of walking in the woods alone. Voices of my friends were in the woods nearby, but the voices would fade and fade until they were gone entirely and I was lost. If you should ever become lost, the worst thing you can do, unless you know what you're doing, is try to find your way out. Generally, initially, you're not far from where you "should" be and is easier for you to be found. If it's going to take more time, remember not to be a neat freak. Wrappers, plastic, and other bits of trash are indications of your passing. As for survival animal movies, I'd think about "Crawl", "The Grey", and "The Ghost and the Darkness", a personal fave. There's a million and one shark movies and others, but the three above stand out to me because they are less typical / cliched. An animal survival film has recurring elements, so, in the face of that, the movie's strength must fall back on story elements that set it apart - music, culture, politics, and as always, a good script. "Frozen" (2010) (not the Disney film) is pretty good too so long as you buy one particular plot hole (which incidentally is quite possible, but not likely). All of these are on your request site.

Mike Fox

Just to name a few survival, animal, or animal survival movies off top of my head - The Revenant The Grey Deep Blue Sea Snakes on a Plane Cujo Homeward Bound Samuel L. Jackson is actually in a third of these movies on this list

DarthChef

I'll watch this one tomorrow. I don't have any animal movie suggestions, but I am pretty sure you would like Hopkins in The World's Fastest Indian. It's on your list already. Based on a true story, Hopkins plays someone you can't help but like. It's a heartwarming story.

Steve Aldersley

i thought was an ice skating movie

If Manbears freak her out, then we probably shouldn't bring up Manbearpig. I'm super cereal.

Joe Blankenship

Its about the wrestler I think 🤣

Matt

Can't wait. 🐻👍

Jason Scade

I read this three times and I kept envisioning “man-bears” being frightening.

PIG

So not a movie about U2 then? 😂

Chris Nielsen
