'Airport' is a good disaster movie. So is 'Only the Brave' starring Josh Brolin. 'The Perfect Storm' will George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg

JPDotCom23

'Twister' was the first ever dvd released when that format took off.

JPDotCom23

"If they were heavier, would the storm pick them up?" hahahaha

JPDotCom23

The largest tornado ever recorded was the El Reno, Oklahoma tornado of May 31, 2013, with a width of 2.6 miles (4.2 km) at its peak. Even though this tornado was a monster, it was only rated as an EF3. It was also the first tornado in which storm chasers lost their lives: Tim Samaras, his son Paul Samaras, and Tim's long time chasing partner Carl Young of the TWISTEX team. This movie inspired a new generation to become storm chasers. After Bill Paxton passed away, storm chasers united to coordinate a GPS tribute to him to spell out his initials. Philip Seymour Hoffman had many amazing roles throughout his acting career, but whenever his name is mentioned, my mind goes straight to Dusty.

Dustin Denner

As Good as it Gets is fun and cringe inducing. Frailty really threw me hard. Paxton against type. Hoffman had a brilliant career though, and passed far to early. RIP fellas. Cameos often stealing the scenes he was in, memorable in both his leads and supporting roles. Almost Famous, Mission Impossible, Capote, Hunger Games, Twister...and so on.

Mike Fox

Oh hey I think I know that one. Yeah a totally believable situation, definitely sticking with you after.

Mike Fox

Cool. I figure recommending a movie on the request site can't hurt ;-)

Mike Fox

It's on Jen's request site 👍

I was 10 when this movie came out and it was an adventure watching it in theaters. I actually remember liking Melissa, even back then I remember thinking that she did the right thing for everyone involved by calling it off; and her reactions were exactly what my reactions would've been if I was experiencing the movie instead of just watching it lol. If you're in the mood for another 90's disaster movie Volcano is a fun watch.

RuthGA

For a great disaster movie I recommend 1979's The China Syndrome. Very good, very enjoyable movie that "feels" real. I'll be straight up, I dunno what kind of metrics you'll get off of it because it IS famous but it's old school famous.

Mike Fox

I was a young buck when this came out. Totally 100% head over heels for Helen Hunt. My kinda girl. Favorite scene: Twister #3: The orchestral music transition from Aunt Meg's house to Van Halen's "Humans Being" rocks the house every ....single... time...

Mike Fox

I guess "Thirteen Lives" would probably count as a disaster movie. Highly recommend either way. Has Viggo Mortensen in it.

Joel P

This movie was pretty awesome to see in the theater. The sound was epic. As for the "science," it's all made up for the movie, but it certainly SEEMS like little sensors going up in a tornado would be helpful. And the ending is pretty goofy. They come out with barely a scratch on them. In reality, they'd probably be impaled multiple times by flying debris.

Joe Blankenship

I thought of a weather movie, I've only seen once when it was new and it still resonates with me. 'All is Lost' (2013). It is quite unusual in that it has almost no dialog for the whole film and only stars a single person but is still absolutely gripping. It's fairly like a particular section of Castaway (Tom Hanks). Very highly recommended. It's on the hard drive. Brief synopsis; Action drama film written and directed by J. C. Chandor. The film stars Robert Redford as a man lost at sea. Redford is the only cast member, and the film has only 51 spoken English words.

+1. Excellent movie

Clay F

+1 for Dante's Peak (1997)

Major Peril

A (sort of) weather movie I would highly recommend "Take Shelter" 2011

Matt

For disaster, Volcano, Dante’s Peak, Greenland, The Core, Moonfall and Geostorm.

ArtemusPrime137

Connor Roy was interested in tornados at a very young age!

Matt

The second one is surprisingly entertaining. I did not figure it would be, but my family drug me to the theater to see it, and I had a good time. I do not think it is as good as this one, but it has a lot of the same care that this one does.

Vwlss Nvwls

I thought Twisters was fun, I'd be down for a reaction 🌪🌪

Matt

Probably could have just watched this instead, Raw was meh imo

*Twister (1996) RT 67% (audience 58%), IMDb 6.5 avg rating by 241,000 users. "A high-concept blockbuster that emphasizes special effects over three-dimensional characters." I think the movie has adequate character development. Twister was the second-highest-grossing film of 1996, behind Independence Day. *Twisters (2024). RT 75% (audience 90%) as you noted. IMDb 6.5 avg rating by 146,000 users. I liked Helen Hunt in "Mad About You" (TV series) -- watched as it aired. I like Philip Seymour Hoffman in a lot of stuff -- he was captivating in Capote (2005) in which he won Best Actor Oscar.

Clay F

I had tornadoes touch down within a mile of my house a few times while I was in Texas. The first time it hit buildings on either side of the Post Office I would go to. I laughed and told people "even Mother Nature knows not to mess with the U.S. Government."

Vwlss Nvwls

I saw this one in the theater, and I was really happy to see Jami Gertz who I had crushed on since a kid watching Square Pegs. This was also the first movie I watched when I got my first surround sound home theater setup... my dogs were not amused. :D Oh, and RIP Bill Paxton AND Philip Seymour Hoffman :(

If you really want to see real life info about tornadoes, watch this documentary about the El Reno tornado (the one I mentioned). It's the largest tornado in US history. It is very informative. I can get you more info on tornadoes if you wish. Just send me a msg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppw0W5IXNAI

Fun thrills / reaction. I haven't seen 'Twisters' but it has a 75% critics score and 90% audience score on RT. From RT; Audience says "Populated with likeable characters and terrific visual effects, Twisters resembles a classic 1990s blockbuster in all the right ways." Further Bill Paxton; Frailty (psy horror) A Simple Plan (drama / thriller) Near Dark (horror / neo Western / drama) Further Helen Hunt; As Good As It Gets (possibly my fave romcom of all time, though it is rather offbeat, Jack Nicholson) The story features a dawg. What Women Want (Mel Gibson) Further Philip Seymour Hoffman; Boogie Nights (minor supporting role though, outstanding ensemble cast) Scent of a Woman (minor supporting role again, main star is Pacino) Further Jan De Bont (the director); Speed (Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock)

Jason Scade

We crave sustenance.

Joe Blankenship

It's crazy for people that live in tornado prone areas not to have a storm shelter. Hell, they had one in the Wizard of Oz. That's the first thing I had installed when I moved in here. It's crazy what people spend on cell phones but they don't give a second thought about a shelter.

Greg in east TN

Love the first. Sequel was a fail for me, though I liked Glen Powell in it. Otherwise, hard pass.

Guy Gordon

A huge tornado (like El Reno) can have satellite tornadoes and other phenomenon.

Greg in east TN

Yes, people really do this. At least three chasers will killed in the El Reno, OK tornado. I stopped by the monument on my way back home from out west. Mike Bettis from the Weather Channel was injured in a chase car that tumbled 5 or 6 times.

Greg in east TN

🖥👀🤯👍🏾👏🏾 multiple viewings in college for me when this originally came out because my girlfriend at the time ran the movie projector in the University's Student Union.😉 I don't know if I was there for her or the movie?🤔😏😉🤣 I was initially down on "Twisters" before viewing but there were so many Easter eggs and respectful nods to "Twister" literally down to even familial "blood ties" to a particular "Twister" "Legacy" actor. R.I.P. Mr. Paxton. A must watch imo for cinema🎞 sake.👍🏾✌🏾

K Dub

Can't have a twister movie without a Toto!

Greg in east TN

I'm with the others. Sequels or remakes rarely reach the mark of the original.

Greg in east TN

20 minutes before Monday Night Raw debuts on Netflix? Really, Jen? 😂😂 Seriously though, can't wait to watch this with you...in about 3 hours 😂

David Murray

Sequel fell flat for me.

daniel j brooks

One of the best disaster movies ever made. I can’t wait to watch this and the sequel “twisters” is more of a stand alone film but it’s worth checking out.

Dylan

Sequel is meh, but chicks seem to like Glen Powell

Neighbourhood Watch Alliance

Love your thumbnail! Yes been waiting on this reaction since forever, its been hovering in that top section for timmeee. Not surprised to hear you loved it, can’t wait to watch tomorrow!

Mark McKeown

Oh! I thought this movie was about dancing!

Geoff S.

Woohoo! Nice timing, my fajita rice is nearly ready. Passion fruit and raspberry panna cotta to follow. Let's twist!
