Just another Red Shirt

I cry like a 12 year old amish widow at the end of that episode. I've seen it dozens of times, and I still cry at the end.

Kevin Gerhart

Excellent episode indeedβœŒπŸ»πŸ––πŸ»

Corbett aka Zodszoo

great episode

Ryan

This one always brings a tear to my eye. Such a powerful episode. "Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again." That's some top tier writing there.

Clyde Frog

This episode and the Offspring with Lal, made me ugly cry when I first watched them. They are tied as my favorite TNG episode.

Daniel Rotello

Among the most beautiful, and saddest, of the TNG episodes. It reminds me (indirectly) of Arthur C. Clarke's short story, "The Star" (1955), in that it presents the same problem: if a civilization came to know it was going to be wiped out with no survivors, what would it do? How would it try to preserve something, anything, so that it did not entirely disappear from history or reality? In giving Picard an entire lifetime as Kamin, the Kataanians provided the most vivid possible message of what they were like, how they lived, what was important to them. With decades of memory, Picard can now tell his own people, in loving detail, what Kataan was. They will live again. But this gift comes at the cost of intense grief. To know that your friends, your spouse, your children, are long dead (and maybe never really lived, as I think that the characters in the vision were invented for the purpose of giving Kamin a life), must provide immeasurable sorrow to Picard. But isn't sorrow appropriate? Don't the Kataanians deserve to have someone mourn them? It makes me think about memorials, epitaphs, and the memory of loved ones.

I came here to point out that it was Daniel Stewart, you beat me to it! lol

Paul Sophocleous

Yeah, I got the CD that was on, and it's gloriously beautiful. It's on YouTube: https://youtu.be/eujM5uoo-l0?si=sutQrHkP8VjxGvxt

I've been waiting for you to get to this one. I recommend looking up the full orchestral video of "The Inner Light" on Youtube. So beautiful.

Deathwind21

Named after, and inspired by, a Beatles song, "The Inner Light", by George Harrison, which itself was inspired by Lao-Tzu's book, Tao Te Ching. Basically, the concept of transcendental meditation and using it to reach another plane. Another consciousness. "Without going out of your door, you can know all things on Earth. Without looking out of your window, you can know the ways of Heaven... Arrive without travelling. See all without looking. Do all without doing."

Best episode

Anders Thomsen

You caught the ONE thing I never caught. The community tree was dead! I never saw it. Such a hard cut at the end though. Dying to know your thoughts on the BEST TNG episode!

Georges Chartrand

You probably saw the imo greatest episode of all Star Trek. Perhaps you like to enjoy episode composer Jay Chattaway' suite on the flute theme... 😊 https://youtu.be/eujM5uoo-l0?si=TNIOalZNOTNU9LEA Happy new year, Jen! πŸ€πŸ€—

Stefan Feyle

It's a little sad, but more than anything it's so, so beautiful.

Opti_Frog

This episode is one of my favorites and anytime the flute (resican?) shows up again I get hyped

Heespharm

Yep, I've been waiting for this episode ever since Jen started watching TNG.

William

I disagree. I think it's a tie with the Borg episode. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

William

This is so great, Jen! Since you started watching TNG, I've been eagerly waiting to see your reaction to this episode. Out of the whole amazing franchise, I've found this show to be the most bittersweet, because this is the closest that Captain Picard ever comes to marrying and raising a family. He gets to live the life of a husband, father and grandfather over the span of 25 minutes, and all he has left of that life are the memories and a small flute-like instrument from a world that disappeared a thousand years ago in a supernova. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about it. πŸ‘πŸ€”πŸ˜Š

William

I've named a few RPG characters after Picard's daughter, Merribore. Also, that was Patrick Stewart's real life son playing his son in this episode.

Henchman Twenty1

The actor who played his son in this episode is Patrick Stewart's real life son too.

Doug

Third best TNG episode.

Robert Cooper

Here we go, kids, the one we've waited for from the beginning πŸ––πŸ»
