🖖STAR TREK UPDATE!

Starting this week, we will be watching both TNG and DS9 here on Patreon 🖖

** I WILL BE FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE FOR ORDER OF EPISODES **

I will watch 2 episodes of Trek per week, by air date. That may mean 1 ep of each, or 2 eps of either depending on the air date.

I anticipate there will be debates about the correct order to watch and I have already been sent MANY websites and spreadsheets with watch orders. I have made the final decision to use the above site as my watch guide so please use this as reference.

I am still deciding if DS9 will be edited for YouTube. It may not, so I can only guarantee FULL LENGTHS of DS9 at this time. For TNG I will continue to post both FULL LENGTHS and EARLY ACCESS YOUTUBE EDITS (though posting consistency will change due to adding DS9).

I will reassess whether we watch Voyager by air date with DS9 later in the year when the time comes.
I WILL be watching the TNG movies but not for some time. In the guide above they fall after TNG finishes, during the DS9/VOY crossover so we will assess later in the year when to watch the movies.
I'd like to reserve the right to take a Trek break at any time if I'm starting to feel burned out.

Just a reminder, my channel is not exclusively a Star Trek channel. Please understand I am watching a lot of other content and many people are not here for Trek. I appreciate how passionate this fan base is but I will not be watching more than 2 episodes per week.

Thank you for being along for the journey as we make our way through Trek! I am really excited to check out DS9 and TNG together! Make it so!🖖

Comments

The first season of DS9 is pretty slow and hard to get through. The 2nd season it starts to get going and then by the 3rd season it really amps up and they hit the gas and from there on out. DS9 is my favorite Star Trek series by far and Sisko is my favorite Star Trek captain! I hope you enjoy DS9 as much as I do. I so love the Ferengi in DS9.

Uhhhhh... k

Jen M

I'm glad your hair is back to full black. Looks great. The highlights were disturbing lol. Love the new Seinfeld episodes. Cheers !

I understand about taking breaks. Do you take breaks between seasons? Might be a way to prevent burnout. When the TNG-6/DS9-1 seasons end, take a month off. Rest or show other stuff. I promise we’ll stick around!🖖

DanManMtn

The entire ensemble is fantastic

Phil Ken Sebben

7 good years. Some growing pains at the beginning. It wipes the floor with voyager and is even better than tng

Phil Ken Sebben

Looking through the list I would say you really don’t need to watch DS9 and Voyager at the same time.

Brett Whittaker

Target Audience are planning to cover all of Star Trek in airdate order.

The Untempered Cynic

Get your rakdajinos ready! Should be awesome.

Clyde Frog

Hi Jen. Glad to be aboard for your DS9 journey! While I would love to see more than 2 Trek reactions per week I fully understand your not wanting to get burned out. DS9 is a completely different kind of Trek so I doubt that will happen. I look forward to your comments about the Cardassian Garak as the show progresses.

Mr Mike

Who's the other reactor planning to watch DS9? Ollie's the only one I know of who's done it until now, but I'd love to check out this other person's reactions too if I haven't already.

Jason Scade

Only the first 2 seasons of DS9 are bad (just like the first 2 seasons of TNG). But it takes off at the beginning of season 3. So the last 5 seasons of DS9 are the most exciting, action packed and the most epic of all the Star Trek shows.

Hok'Tar

It takes off inseason 4, but that doesn't mean 1-3 are bad. 1-3 lay a foundation and then 4 final explodes off that foundation.

Jon Hoover

Happy you’re watching DS9. My favorite of all the Treks.

Sonny Smith

Thank you! Honestly I’m mostly just lazy about taking the time to log onto Paramount+ and synching up. You’re great at what you do and I really appreciate it!

Dean

I do closing thoughts for all full lengths usually, regardless of whether they go yo YouTube 👍

Jen M

I admire your diligence and earnestness in trying to work out an optimum viewing order. As someone who saw the shows in their original order and whose kids didn't, I honestly don't think it matters. Fans get so passionate about the smallest things...

Jason Scade

I very much enjoyed Voyager from the start, more than DS9. For me it was more an issue with the characters, you can argue the stories on Voyager weren't as good but I wanted to tune in to see what the characters were doing. With DS9 the characters took much longer to grow on me. Had I known to expect the arcs they went through gradually I would probably have stuck with the show first run and not waited until I accidentally caught a later episode to go back to it. But it needs to be bourne in mind there's always been resistance and fan backlash to every new iteration of Star Trek. Some come around to loving it and some never do.

The Untempered Cynic

but I think the common wisdom is that it tookuntil season 4 for Voyager to get really good

rubberkidney

So glad you're going to watch TNG and DS9 in airdate order. I can understand doubting whether to edit for YouTube, but there's currently only one other reactor doing it as far as I know and he's a bit of an acquired taste and skipped most of TNG. The other channel intending to watch by airdate is at least a season of TNG behind you. I think it might do better than you expect. Just editing Emissary might give you a better indication and would get the word out you're covering it to DS9 fans who may sign up to watch full reactions even if you don't continue the edits.

The Untempered Cynic

I am so looking forward to one day watching Voyager series with you and then Enterprise but as I said before DS9 did nothing for me I will probably skip it although I am intrigued that people said it got better in the end years I just don't feel like wasting 5 years to get to the two good years...

Dave K

I hope she's already seen it, because that could be a spoiler.

The Untempered Cynic

Auberjonois for sure, and Colm Meaney too. Brooks is just weird and forceful. He has a certain charisma. But he's also very wooden with no real emotional range.

Max du Coudray

So glad you're going to be watching DS9! It's my favorite series, and there are some of the best episodes of Trek in there! You're in for a magnificent experience!

Paul Sophocleous

There are so many epic moments in DS9 and I can't wait to see Jen's reaction to all of them!

Paul Sophocleous

This is great Jen! I'm really happy with the direction your Trek reaction is going. It might not be the most convenient way to go, but it's well worth it to experience the overall story in the order it occurs. I think you're going to find The Emissary very interesting. I can't wait!

Zorak

I’m really excited about DS9! Watching TNG and DS9 in chronological order has been on my bucket list for a while. When I originally watched these series, it was completely out of order because of how the network aired them. I started with a couple of seasons of Voyager, then watched all of DS9, followed by all of Voyager, and finally TNG. Since I watched at a pace of five episodes a week over 2-3 years, I don’t think you’ll burn out. But I would totally understand if you decided to take a break at some point. If nothing else, just to keep Star Trek from completely taking over the channel. Just a heads-up: DS9 is quite different from TNG, with noticeably different characters and tone. Like TNG, it has a slow start and also takes a few seasons to truly find its footing. That said, in many ways, it was quite ahead of its time. You’ll need to wait for the beard before it gets really great. As for YT cuts, it’s hard to predict. I haven’t seen anyone react to this series before, so you’ll be venturing into uncharted territory. Despite being the black sheep of 90s Trek, it has a very dedicated fan base. Though its audience is certainly a bit different from the TNG crowd with only a partial overlap. I know when it first aired, many TNG fans didn’t like it and stopped watching during seasons 1 or 2. But since then, it also gained a new audience through streaming.

Voyager seems to be the divisive one AFA the early spinoffs. I'm with you on Voyager, but I understand why it's the "black sheep". Even one of my favorite YT Trek commentators/reviewers, whom I 90% agree with, doesn't care much for VOY, and always rubs fans the wrong way for his opinions on it.

Over50Gamer

I'm not too sure about "its actors aren't as good"; Avery Brooks is a powerhouse of an actor, and René Auberjonois is no slouch either.

Over50Gamer

Nice! Though like TNG, it takes a couple of seasons before the show really finds its stride

Guy

I’ve got the biggest smile on my face. I can’t wait to see Jen’s reactions when Sisko goes on one of his patented rabid rants and his jowls giggle like jello! 😂

Julian San

Im so happy you’re going to watch DS9. I do hope that there will be a YouTube release too because I really enjoy your closing thoughts with each episode you watch and I believe DS9 will inspire some great post-episode thoughts

Dean

Fantastic if you are doing DS9 in full. Frankly it doesn't matter how you intermix the two series as long as you do both in order. Please find the platform, Netflix is perfect, which airs The Emissary and later the TNG series finale as one big episode as they originally aired or notable cuts will happen in the two separate episodes.

Andrew Roach

If you are looking for a science fiction series (not star trek) please put on your list "Babylon 5". This is a 5 year series with movies and spin-off's.

Steve Moliterno

This is the logical choice.

Aaron

OMG this makes me so happy. I cant wait to see you get into DS9!

Clyde Frog

Seems like a reasonable and well-considered plan. I approve. Deep Space Nine starts slowly; its actors aren't as good as TNG, which makes it even shakier at first. But it builds a strong serialized story unlike any other Star Trek. Personally, I think Voyager has very little to recommend it, but we have some time before we reach that point.

Max du Coudray

Really can't wait until she here's the theme, one of the best in the trek universe. It's so hauntingly beautiful.

Kristin D

Wow this is actually more than I expected! Going where no reactor has gone before. I would have totally been happy for you to watch DS9 pilots then finish TNG but whatever works for you.

Brett Whittaker

This is very exciting. I can't wait to see you react to DS9.

Christopher Hayes

Love your Trek reactions whenever and however they drop! We very much appreciate you valuing your audience’s opinions, but this is your channel. Watch what you enjoy and we will be here for the ride! Thank you Jen!

Matt Poppell

DS9 is pretty meh in my opinion but Voyager is amazing. I'm pretty glad to hear that Voyager is on the table though. I feel personally attacked by that two episode comment

rubberkidney

Any way you want to watch is fine with me. I would not have the audacity to utter a single word that might sound like a complaint when we're actually, really, for real getting Deep Space Nine reactions. I am beside myself with excitement and joy! 🖖

Opti_Frog

I’m so excited to see your DS9 pilot reacts ! DS9 is my 2nd favorite Star Trek series behind Voyager.. But if i'm being totally honest, After the TNG series and movies I feel like you should take a month or 2 break before you start reacting to the rest of the DS9 series , Cause it would be a little too much

Ciarra Jade

This is me too! 👍

Benjy

Wow, what a great idea! Love this list! Engage!

Jeremy Vickers

I’m not here just for Star Trek, but I’m here for Star Trek, if you know what I mean. I appreciate the order in which you’ve chosen to watch Trek. Just how we all originally watched it, at least for those of us fans who were around that long ago.

Daniel Goldberg

I can't. If only for a reason to watch the series again

Naturekitty5309

They lean so hard into the typical action-movie tropes and abandon most of the characterization and principles established in the TV series that it barely seems like TNG to me.

Lee

Reacting to DS9 is truly going where very few reactors have gone before. Thanks very much for embarking on this voyage. I hope you find it a pleasant journey!

Lee

To me they are simply on par with the normal TV episodes. Whereas the OG Trek outdid themselves and made proper films, particularly II-IV which I think is one of he best sci-fi trilogies ever

Neighbourhood Watch Alliance

Following airdate order, to experience in the same sequence the audience did at the time, is good imo, and for the same reason I say take breathers when there's a natural break in programming to create an anticipation for the return

Neighbourhood Watch Alliance

Good decision. 👍🏼 Looking forward to hear you hum the DS9 theme. 😉

Stefan Feyle

Cool. I love your Trek Reactions from singing the theme, every time you say commercial break and how you always get so upset when data acts human then reverses and gets emotionless. All good. Concurrent is cool with me. I'll watch it all including Enterprise. The new series not so much but who knows, I might keep watching you react to them too.

TigerMyth

Hi Jen! Sounds like a great plan going forward! LLAP

Nicholas Walsh

Jen I’m here for anything you do. I first joined because I loved your movie reactions especially your comments on music (and the Bond movies and Firefly!). Star Trek TOS and TNG was a major bonus as far as I’m concerned. Doing DS9 is way beyond expectations. Even attempting this makes you more than a Star. But the important thing is to keep reacting to movies you and your followers like. I think we all want your fan base to grow and for you to find memorable content we can all enjoy together. I know the end of 2024 was rough IRL. If it means anything you bring happiness to a lot of people. I’m hoping better days and happiness finds you in 2025. I’ll be here on Patreon following you for as long as you are here. Your insights and laughs are infectious. Every notification I get that you have posted (updates or reactions) brings a smile. Be well.

Nathan Burgess

That sounds fair, do what's best for you and your channel, Jen. And thank you for starting DS9 and considering Voyager. You'll really enjoy them both!

Slate

Sounds like a great plan, Jen!

Dustin Denner

Super excited 😄 😊

Kristin D

Very thorough, Jen. That is a great guide to follow. VOY is my favorite Trek, but I do worry that you will burn yourself out if you overlap DS9 and VOY for the entire length of the shows. I think the TNG and DS9 overlap will be ok because it's only for the remaining 1.5 seasons of TNG... But we will cross that bridge when we get there. Just the fact that you are actually watching DS9 on the channel is pretty cool. DS9 is more lore heavy, intricate, and dark. VOY is more episodic, whimsical, and explorative.

Amarant Coral

Works for me!

Thomas Yanez

ya that list looks that same as I seen them on TV back in the day . God I feel old saying that lol

john reed

As much as I love TNG....their movies always seemed to fall short to me

Naturekitty5309

Yay! I am excited for this. Of course, you will have all the patience from me that you will require. I am just happy to be here. And I am not here exclusively for trek either. I am just enjoying the ride.

Damon Corrigan

"Just a reminder, my channel is not exclusively a Star Trek channel" - indeed, I didn't even come for Trek, though I am a Trek enjoyer. I said it before I think on Discord though - you've kinda carved out a bit of a niche, if you like Trek you're going to enjoy what's to come.

Martin Nicholls

DS9 was probably the least popular Star Trek series when it aired, probably due to its multi episode story arcs, but since the arrival of binge watching, its popularity has really increased.

Clayton Johnson

Make it so, Number 1.

thebeefmaster

Thank you for trying out the full Star Trek universe. Hopefully you don't get burnt out, but we'll understand if you need a break. I'm looking forward to your reactions.

Fanchman

This sounds great and I'm looking forward to all your upcoming Trek content! For me personally the more the better....but you're the captain. 😁🖖

Stefan Loferer

Fantastic stuff Jen and brilliantly spelled out . I'm super intrigued to find out how you like the DS9 theme 🙂 make it so 🖖

Ian

All of the TNG movies are VERY optional, IMHO. Trek works best in the episodic form. (coming from someone who has watched everything from TOS to ENT, and some of the more recent... Stuff.)

l.h. riley

Absolutely thrilled. And I’m totally cool with keeping the Trek schedule as is. As you said, this isn’t a Trek channel, so Trek weekends it remains. LLAP 🖖🏼

timdoesphoto

Too many fans have turned this into such drama. I want to see Jen enjoy DS9 amd VOY as much as anyone. Jen shouldn't have to have a congressional hearing to decide how to move forward and she has to write a thesis just to try and limit the possible hate and negativity. Jen, I'm here on Patreon for your entire journey, however far you choose to go and as long as you're still enjoying it. It's supposed to be fun. A lot of us have forgotton that.

Jon Hoover

brilliant news jen

john reed

this is good news.. looking forward to a DS9 rewatch..

Rogue_ML

My inner Trek fan just squeed lol

Chrissonator

Sounds like a plan to me, boss lady 🫡

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Very excited for this! Can't wait!

Ron

Don't you be rubbing Quark's ears and getting him all hot and horny, lol

Clayton Johnson

Awesome

Clay F

I envy you getting to watch DS9 for the first time

Kev Longley

Sounds great, Jen.

Brian Straight

Excellent news. DS9 is amazing!
