πŸ––Star Trek TNG S06E05-06 Full Length Reaction

Comments

Jen, great to watch these full-length reactions with you. I love "Ode to Spot". 12-year-old me memorized that poem. It's a classic. I don't know why people keep telling you Q is not an antagonist. *Turns on megaphone* Testing. Attention fandom: Q is antagonist. Always has been.

Dante Hopkins

Also, Olivia D'abo played Betty Jo in Wayne's World 2 πŸ˜†

Carlos Perez

Jason Scade

Q is not a shit, Q is the BEST! And please don't interrupt Picard's epic monologues.

Brian Cali

They're like Locarno and Paris.

Thegonagle

Oh really? Cheers, man! πŸ‘ They look so similar.

Jason Scade

It was very clever.

Thegonagle

That's not Maryam, that's her cousin Olivia. Olivia d'Abo was most famous in that era for playing Kevin Arnold's older sister in The Wonder Years.

Thegonagle

Schisms has always been great to me for its eeriness and similarities to "real" alien abduction stories. The show paralleled them well.

Brian Straight

'True Q' was entertaining, good reaction / review. Maryam d'Abo, 'The Living Daylights'. 😍 28:10 When Q turns Beverly into a canine, the Bev-dog looked like a Red Setter. πŸ˜‚

Jason Scade

I love Q. I think it would be difficult to have morality as an omnipotent being. The value of life and death would seem as arbitrary as on and off.

Noremac

Jen M

Jen, we can spend hours debating Q and the morality. I’ll keep it short and just add that altruism would be easy with Q powers, but who’s to say this how the universe is supposed to unfold. And it’s not a responsibility I would want.

Julian San

The girl Q is Olivia d'Abo. Her sister is Maryam d'Abo the cello player in The Living Daylights. Olivia also co stars in Conan the Destroyer and plays a serial Killer in Law and Order: Criminal Intent. She is English so she disguises her accent in a lot of roles.

Geoff S.

Schisms. Great ep and reaction. πŸ’œπŸ–– I wish TNG had more of these semi-horror eps. Glad you enjoyed it despite the scary, creepy vibe. Still, I'd go with the Schism weirdos getting a hold me over the Borg. Re-attached arms, off by 0.02 microns are irrelevant. πŸ‘ Data's poetry recital and Riker clapping prematurely after Troi nudges him from his sleep. 😴 πŸ˜‚ Synonyms for schism are split, strife, discord, dissolution.

Jason Scade

I remember being so creeped out by Schisms. In the early 90s on Friday nights were new episodes of seasons 6 and 7 of TNG and seasons 1 and 2 of the X-Files back to back. A great night for new TV episodes. Couldn't believe TNG did an alien abduction story and my 10-year old self was totally freaked out.

Brian Patterson

I found the thumbnail face.

Jon Hoover

True Q was really good, too. It might be Q's best for one-liners and comebacks. Great story, too. Very interesting. Do Q's have superior morality? I tend to take Picard's side, and the evidence of Q's behavior and say no way! 'Course, godlike beings might know something we don't...

Banes

I love love love Ode To Spot.

Jeremy

I like Q episodes because they always give Picard a chance to give a good speech. Unless it's about archaeology.

Joe Blankenship

A couple of pretty okay episodes, I think. Schisms - By the way, 'schism' means just simply a split between people of opposing viewpoints - it is often used with churches when a splinter group goes off because of different viewpoints - they call that a schism. I am not sure how the title refers to this; I mean, kind of maybe, but not really. Anyway, your line "every time we have a crappy nights sleep, this is what happens" is not one I have ever had, and now that you have voiced that, that thought is going to fester in my mind. :) True Q - First off, I love it when you get so distracted by the hook that you forget the "Space, the final frontier". :D Q and morality is always an interesting thing, and I don't think you would ever get a straight answer from Q about it. It does make me think back to Season 3 episode 3 - The Survivors - when Picard says "we have no law to fit your crime". I think Q is a bit above our ideas of right and wrong. They just don't apply. In fact, should Amanda have taken away the pollution like she did on the planet? Q seems to be genuinely interested in helping others learn, but just waving and fixing things doesn't help people learn. Yes, he is a shit, as you said, and yes he does annoy and bother people. But the motivations are always ambiguous. I don't know if I could label him good or bad - I think they just have their own moral compass, and it is incomprehensible to us. I am comforted, though, by the idea that they know enough to not just destroy everything that annoys them. I don't know why they don't - my head canon says they believe in the randomness of the universe and the beauty and wonder it contains, so they do their best to preserve it. They have killed, but usually on a very small scale so as to not impact the universe too much. I don't know really, that's just me talking out my butt. But it is also the beauty of this show that we can think about things like this. Great drop, and I am excited for next weekend. Thank you again.

We've had to keep "Ode To Spot" a secret for this long. Do you know how hard that was???

Jon Hoover

Big fan of Troi's hair in Schisms.

Patrick

...And of course, there's "Ode to Spot". A classic moment for sure xD

Banes

Haven't seen either of these in a long time - looking forward to it! Schisms is scary. I always remember that creepy Holodeck scene where people are recreating the room from their memories. Shivers!

Banes

Trek-tastic! πŸ˜ƒ Can't wait to catch up on this week's schedule. Very curious about your Schisms reaction as it's one of the rare 'horror' TNG eps. But I've still your KK III to see too. (and for the very 1st time!) Decisions, decisions. Great thumb!

Jason Scade

I always loved Schisms - the (more and less) subtle horror, packed within the compact 40 minutes is very well directed in my opinion. One of my favourites.. I'm still a bit disappointed not to know more about the aliens.. I was waiting for you to see this one, Jen☺️ And Q gets another great appearance with an interesting twist. In a way, the fact that he genuinely cares for her and an adequate 'education' for her, makes him again more human and authentic. Interestingly the older I get, the more I appreciate the creation of this character. His critical, sometimes radical or harsh (but still caring) view on humanity is something we could all need from time to time, or not..? I think people who still just see him as a 'villain' didn't understand anything about him.. I think specifically from season 5/6 on, the actors really came into their own and embodied their characters more and more.. and the stories and narratives get bolder.. Some might say, there's a bit too much tech talk at times, but anyway, I love it..πŸ˜‰

Marco Borromeo

Ohhhh, yes.... Schisms. One of the very few Trek episodes to ever creep me out and have me questioning weird things that ever happened to me. 😫 True Q is a good one too.

Over50Gamer

πŸ˜€ brilliant thumbnail,so looking forward to finding out what moment this is from but will be saving it for next Jen Sunday because that's what Sunday's are for πŸ–– make it so πŸ”₯

Ian

I always get hyped when new Star Trek reactions drop. No one does them better than Jen πŸ––
