The Devil's Advocate (1997) Full Length Reaction

Hollllyyyyy that was crazy! Al Pacino freakin killed it, always love seeing Keanu, Charlize got dealt a rough deal. This one was fascinating and definitely creepy in parts but I was pretty captivated. What's your take on the ending?

This is one that is so rewarding rewatching again. There are so many great clues ! And Charlize is soooo beautiful (I prefer the perm !)

Great reaction! 'Angel Heart' (1987) is another dark, mysterious noir thriller. De Niro and Mickey Rourke. Further recommendations; - Runaway Jury (2003) Grisham based legal thriller, superb. - The Rainmaker (1997) Grisham based legal thriller / drama. - ...And Justice For All (1979) Legal drama / black comedy. Pacino. - Scent of a Woman (1993) Essential Pacino drama, very touching. Somewhat akin to Good Will Hunting. - Dolores Claiborne (1995) By the director of The Devil's Advocate. Based on Stephen King novel. Gripping psychological drama, faintly reminiscent of Misery. - Donnie Brasco (1997) Organised crime drama / true story, 1970s mafia deep infiltrated by a lone FBI agent. Essential Pacino. - Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) Yet more essential Pacino. Dubious salesmen struggle with their jobs and targets. Drama / black comedy based on a famous David Mamet play. Mega cast!

I loved this movie as well, saw it in theatres, Al Pacino chewing up the scenary, as he always does, him getting shot was like Tony Montana. You should watch more of Pacino's films; Serpico, And Justice For All, Sea of Love, Frankie & Johnny, Glengarry Glen Ross, Paterno, he is just incredible to watch.

I've always thought he was given a second chance and everything really happened. If it was a hallucination I'd find it less enjoyable.

Interesting trivia: The original sculpture in the movie actually resulted in a lawsuit that WB lost as it was based too closely on a real piece. They had to re-edit the movie before it could be released for TV, though about half a million unedited copies were allowed to go to video stores.

Glad you liked this one Ian. This is a solid movie. Don't know about Keanu's accent but they had to make him southern, so his mom could be that stereotypical southern Baptist type. One of my favorite things about the movie though is the bas-relief sculpture featured in Milton's office.

Enjoyed this one ofc having watched Lucifer the series i can't see him as completely evil ngl . Definitely wasn't expecting the twist at the end . If you're not getting bombarded by cosmetic companies to promote their products Jen there is something wrong with the world wow that lipstick 🔥 oh and champagne companies also 🥂 . This was a good one and as you say it's going to be quite the challenge getting it on yt but your editors are great so they got this 👌

It's funny that you aren't the first reactor to see Cullen's penthouse and think the dreadfully low class golden apartment must be what Trump's looks like, ha! Weird how the Devil isn't the worst person associated with this movie, right?

For a discussion of the nature and timing of the battles against evil, as well as a clear distinction between the three adversaries of humanity — Lucifer, Ahriman (The Devil), and the Asuras — the reader should refer to three outstanding articles by Hans-Werner Schroeder which appeared in the Newsletter of the Anthroposophical Society in America, Summer 1979, Spring 1980, and Summer 1980. Many questions that might arise will find their answer there. In John's Revelation, or Apocalypse, the end times will be a great culmination of egotism known as 'the war of all against all', to take place at the end of the seventh post-Atlantean epoch, which would place it three to four thousand years from the present. Rudolph Steiner said the current conditions beginning 1998 would be similar to that period, although in that future time they will have technology which allow humans to blow up people on the other side of the world at the simple press of a button, but there will be a secret location of safety and those people guided to it will create a godly post-apocalypse civilization

Dang that hymn song was catchy as heck. Romans, 16, 19 10! This was when Keanu used to be able to act and emote. He actually moves his face in this! I guess the Wachowskis drained all the emotion out of him. That ending makes no sense, in retrospect. The plot hinges on free will, but then he gets caught in a time loop? Less satisfying, on rewatch Hopefully at some point you'll check out Point Break, another early Keanu classic.

It’s so funny when you said “that’s what I imagine Trump’s house looks like” because that scene was literally filmed in Trump’s penthouse. The character that lives there was even based on Trump (or at least a Trump archetype, NYC real estate mogul who has a weird obsession with his daughter). The film crew wanted to use the penthouse for reference photos but Trump offered to let them film there and they were like “do you realize what’s in the script” and Trump said he didn’t care. When filming he kept dropping by trying to see if he could meet Charlize Theron.

Paul Peavler

Yes! That one is good. 😊

Over50Gamer

The meaning of the ending for me was that evil never sleeps

I was surprised to find that even though I haven’t watched this movie in easily a decade, I could quote it almost line for line… This was one of the first movies I ever downloaded and I had it on repeat in my bedroom a lot for some reason.
