My brother and I saw this in the theater, and there were two teenage girls a couple rows in front of us singing along with all the songs. It was so funny :D

Glad to see this reaction. This movie is my childhood & I had a feeling you'd love it! I watched it at a young enough age, where I was intrigued enough by horror, but too scared to see anything gory. This movie was perfect, and we watched this a lot to the point of memorizing every song. If you're looking for another nutty Steve Martin role, definitely recommend Dirty Rotten Filthy Scoundrels.

Wow! Great reaction!!! I knew you would love this one, and a musical too. I don't know if you remember, but I recommended you dive into some musicals. You are right - you need more music in your life. It really brings you out and frees you up. Thanks fo doing this - so good! Another great film is "A Nightmare Before Christmas." Not scary at all, perfectly family friendly, and totally amazing. Where to begin? Okay, let's start with A Musical (!) with a score written by Danny Elfman. He sings the lead, too! Amazing stop motion animation. Super voice cast. A sweet love story. Funny. A great original concept. And directed by Tim Burton. The "Nightmare Before Christmas" in the title is Halloween - so it would be perfect to do this season. A great holiday film we watch every year around Halloween to lead us into the fast approaching Christmas Film Season. I hope you can find the time to squeeze it in! Regardless, I love what you do. Keep it up!

The theatrical cut of the movie has minor edits in the movie as it leads up to the reshoot of the ending. It basically turns the movie into a heroes journey, as you've seen. The original cut throughout has minor changes that reflect the "cautionary tail" that the Corman original had. Basically Seymour is no longer a hero and winds up losing to the plant, and the plants take over the world. I think the story works a little better as a cautionary tale as you see Seymour descending into darkness only realizing too late what's happening. The movie still works as a heroes tale, but feels a bit flat after seeing the original ending.

I don't know if you are familiar with the TV show "Martin" starring Martin Lawrence. The actress who was "Chiffon" (one of the 3 chorus girls) played Martin's wife in that show. I almost forgot to mention this (since no one else did), but that scene between Steve Martin and Bill Murray was completely improvised. As for if they had ever been in anything together, Steve Martin was often on SNL back when Bill Murray was part of the cast. Also, I'm not sure if you were aware, that was Jim Belushi, not John Belushi. Jim is the younger brother. I watched the original Corman movie. It's...weird. It's extremely campy (IMO, way too campy). It plays off of a lot of tropes including kind of spoofing Dragnet, but it's just...weird. I'm normally a fan of the stranger older sci-fi types of movies, but for me that one was just, meh, which is a shame because I love the musical. BTW, I didn't realize there was a director's cut version until a year or two ago when I was watching another reactor watch it and when it got to the point where it diverged (right after Seymour pulls Audrey from the plant and they go into the back alley), I was really confused, thinking "This is not what I remember..." It's definitely wild and you should definitely watch it (maybe do a mini-watch along viewing on here if you can find a link to just that part). If you love the puppetry, well, let's just say they went all out with the puppetry for that ending.

The Director's Cut as everyone is calling, is the actual original ending to the movie, but when they first tested it... audiences hated the ending and thus they changed it to what you see here. Also, in the original Roger Corman movie, Jack Nicholson plays the patient that Bill Murray so brilliantly played.

+1 for "This is Spinal Tap"! I would also add Brian De Palma's "Phantom of the Paradise" (1974). Another musical-of-sorts that's very loosely based on the Phantom of the Opera theme. Paul Williams wrote the music and lyrics and plays an absolutely brilliant part in the film.

Highly entertaining, fab reaction. Another excellent but very dark musical is Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd (2007). Johnny Depp as Todd. It's bloody! As other people have suggested, 'This Is Spinal Tap' (1984) is another musical-of-sorts that is a seminal 80s comedy. A mockumentary about an aging rock band trying to make a come back. it's very, very funny and has a large fan base. Dir by the fab Rob Reiner (The Princess Bride, Misery, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Stand By Me). www.jenmurrayxo.com

Yes, that Frank Oz, original voice and puppeteer of Yoda, directed. Started out with the Jim Henson troupe on the Muppets and Sesame Street before going on to Star Wars. Directed many other films like The Dark Crystal, The Muppets Take Manhatten, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and many more.

"Feed Me, Seymour!" ๐Ÿ˜

There's one very slight difference in the scene transition at about 55 minutes in, but it's barely noticeable. After that, the major changes start around 1 hour, 15 minutes - right after Audrey gets the call from Audrey II and goes over to the shop. Hope that helps!

Say AAAAAAAH! (gggggh) Say AAAAAAH! (aagggggh)

Zapp Rowsdower

If you went to see this in theaters when it first ran, you got a button. Still have mine.

Allen Bond

DC is very much the superior ending.

Opti_Frog

Yep, gotta find a slot for it

Thin White Duke

Yes, everyone actually sings in the film. Ellen Greene is a very accomplished Broadway actress. Audrey II is voiced by Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops. There are some touring companies still doing the stage musical. Itโ€™s a pretty common show in community theaters. The original film by Roger Corman is ok. It doesnโ€™t have the charm of the musical but it might be worth checking out sometime.

Justtired

Just realized you haven't actually seen Spinel Tap yet so hope you get too eventually

Matt

Christopher Guest is one of the band members from This Is Spinel Tap, he was also in The Princess Bride

djKENTO

you loved it ok witch song will be stuck in your head

scott osborne

It's been many years since I've seen this, I'd forgotten a lot of it. Then checked out the DC ending right after. Speechless.

Death Lego

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is available now, just saying ๐Ÿ˜‰

Matt

If you ever watched the show "Martin," you might have recognized Gina and Pam as 2 of the 3 chorus girls.

Joe Blankenship

You've gotta check out the director's cut. As others have said, it's just the ending that's different, but holy cow is it different. It has gotta be one of the most ambitious and complex sequences to ever be cut from a film. The amount of work that must have gone into all of it for it to be tossed is insane. Regardless of which you end up preferring, it's worth checking out just for the ambition and craziness of it all.

Guy Gordon

I remember watching this as a kid and being disappointed because it was a musical. But as I got older and started to appreciate the music, it's become one of my favorite musicals. "Suddenly Seymour" always gives me chills. The Director's Cut ends how the stage musical ends--pretty wild. But for a movie, the theatrical version is much more satisfying.

Joe Blankenship

Pretty much right after Audrey 2 calls Audrey is where it is completely different from this version

Eric Traylor

Looks like you loved it, which is great. Like people are saying, yeah, it's just the ending that's different (far as I know). And it's BIG different.

Banes

The directors cut is just the finale. You can literally just watch the end and do a separate reaction for that. Itโ€™s insane. Like so expensive and epic. Shame it was hidden away for decades.

djKENTO

Only thing I remember about this movie is "feed me " at least I think it's this movie lol lovely thumbnail looks like you enjoyed this one and happy smiling Jen is the best Jen ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’™

Ian

Super stoked for this! Will watch very soon. :D So delighted you loved it as much as the blurb and thumbnail indicate. It's a great soundtrack too, as often is the case, it's on good ole YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_gcxqrFNXU&list=PL6zRCxFyiWGRQH-F5wvejJx9wgc6kWtBa&index=1 I'd love to give another shout out / recommendation for the award wining, much beloved, extremely funny musical dramady 'The Commitments' (1991). It received much critical acclaim, was a huge audience drawer and pleaser and the music in it is absolutely fantastic (awesome soul music covers), I love it almost as much as The Blues Brothers. An Irish hustler puts together a Dublin band that covers hits of 1960s American soul.

Jason Scade

The movie is the same and only changes right at Seymour asking Audrey, โ€œAre you okay?โ€ and she answers, โ€œYesโ€ฆ No.โ€ Thatโ€™s where the Directorโ€™s Cut starts.

Zack Parks

Yes the ending is completely changed. Fun fact. This was filmed on the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios

Geoff S.

It's really just the ending that's different... but it's very, very different.
