S05E03 Ensign Ro S05E04 Silicon Avatar

New Ensign in the house-- err on the bridge! I'm curious to see if Ro will be back in future eps (don't tell me!) since it seemed like she accepted the job but then she wasn't in ep 4. Maybe she'll be like a Guinan popping in and out, we'll see! Looking forward to more next week! Engage! ๐Ÿ––

Did anyone else notice that the same actor that plays ensign Ro also plays the daughter in Half a Life I just noticed that today. The number of decks seems inconsistent at best most estimates puts it around 42-46 decks.

I call him Jar Jar Abrams.

No, J J Abrams screwed up the Vulcan Homeland all by himself. If he goes before I do, I'll urinate on his grave. The SOB! You may remember Ro Laren as the scientist's daughter that talked him into returning to his planet to kill himself because he was 60 years old.

I was always confused why they seemed so unsure if they could communicate with the entity. Picard's surprised look as he says "It's responding to us. So it is possible to communicate" didn't make sense to me. They know that Lore talked and collaborated with the entity. I could almost accept that they forgot that because it was from so many episodes ago, but they even talked about it, in depth, in this episode. They clearly knew communication was possible, it was just a matter of how. But they were surprised that it was possible at all.

Did you notice that nobody ever complained about Warf's Klingon sash.

I want to go backwards and say my thoughts on Silicon Avatar. I'm thinking of advanced aliens looking at humans somewhat like how humans look at insects. I think that it may be a case where the Crystalline Entity basically thought all carbon-based life, besides itself, is inferior yet nourishing and therefore delicious (I'm half-joking here; I don't know its dietary needs). However, it seemed taken aback that the Enterprise is trying to communicate with it and was probably genuinely curious about what was going on. Too bad that the visiting doctor decided to take matters in her own hands, even worse that she was trusted with complete unrestricted access to the Enterprise's sensors and emitters! Learning lesson for our good captain, I guess. Ensign Ro was very interesting. It shows Captan Picard as very able to play political games well enough to see several moves ahead, much like chess, without succumbing to the temptation of playing along for his own benefit. I think Guinan served a great purpose to provide Laren with a ladder (that the ensign already had and didn't know it!) to climb out of the hole she dug herself into. I admit that the admiral's plot was so shady that I got confused as to how and why he was doing everything, so I had to rewatch a couple scenes.
