S03E15 Yesterday’s Enterprise S03E16 The Offspring

Guyssss we're finally in "the good episodes" now lol!! I have enjoyed everything up to now but definitely Season 3 is taking a good step up with these 2! I enjoyed them both so much! Bear with me as my mind is boggled in Yesterday's Enterprise-- I swear I get there in the end. And so far the closest I have come to tears is in The Offspring. Engage! 🖖

I never tire of this episode. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it? This is probably my favorite episode of any trek of all time still to this day. Yes it’s arguably the best trek episode of all! When Picard was telling Garret how the war was going, the music in the background was chilling and you can sense a dread in Picard’s voice. The music of this particular episode was masterful. I have a CD soundtrack that includes the music of this episode. Yar’s story finally had a proper ending and closure. The visuals were stunning and the model of the Enterprise C was spectacular! You could see that it came after Kirk’s Enterprise and before Picard’s Enterprise, a natural progression of technology through the generations. I can’t say enough about this episode!

I recall at the time before this episode, hearing that the producers of TNG were looking for a script vehicle to return Denise Crosby to the series. At this time they were also accepting spec scripts from outside writers. I had sent in a spec script and my idea had the Enterprise thrown into an alternate dimension and returned to Vagra II, where they find Tasha Yar, the soul survivor, Armus having been defeated at the cost of the ship and all the rest of the crew. The storyline revolved around her disbelief that they were real and experiencing survivor's guilt, after two years alone on that planet. In the end they rescued her and brought her back to their dimension, where she could basically pick up where she left off... Needless to say, my idea was not implemented and "Yesterday's Enterprise" was the script that was used... and in hindsight, was perhaps, a better choice than mine.

Been looking forward to you seeing Yesterday's Enterprise and your reaction didn't disappoint. You hit upon a key fact regarding the writing in classic canon Trek versus the new stuff, and that is that the show did not dumb things down. This was smart science fiction written by smart science fiction writers for true science fiction fans, and you honestly had no problems keeping up with it. When you mentioned the "speech explaining the other timeline" I immediately thought of Trek 09 where they basically give that very speech. Excellent catch with that, you are so right. The folks on TNG knew their audience and loved and respected them. There's so much more good stuff to come and you are at the cusp of one of the most iconic stories in the entire 50 year run of Trek!

You come a very long way and your almost to the one episode that will change everything going forward only a few more episodes and you'll find out. Warning don't look up anything online or you tube because it will spoil everything.
