I think an important distinction exists which was not raised in this hearing. Was Data purchased via some contract, by Starfleet? Or did he, if his own free will, decide to apply to the academy, graduate, and receive a commission like all other officers? If he was not purchased, it seems quite unlikely that he could be “legal property.”

2024-03-05 21:32:22 +0000 UTCIt's funny, but in geek circles, "Growing the Beard" is considered the opposite of "Jumping the Shark", and yes, this series named that phenomenon because of Jonathan Frakes not shaving his beard that he grew between seasons and Roddenberry liking how 'nautical' it looked... and it coinciding with a few big major changes for Season 2 improving the series as a whole. But honestly... I think that this is the precise _episode_ when TNG 'grows the beard'.
