There can be only one!

This movie is bananas!! 😂 I had no idea what I was in for!! Immortality, beheadings and  sword fights all set to Queen! What about the sequels?

Highlander (1986) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Skip, the sequels…🤬 Go straight to the TV show!

JFM3

There was rumored to be another movie, though, made after the smoke finally cleared around the nonexistent Highlander 2. I think that one was Highlander: The Apology or something like that. I don't know. I heard it was mediocre.

Kaleigh Kaos

You should definitely react to Flash Gordon (1980) with music by Queen, love that movie, with Max Von Sydow as Ming the Merciless

Richard Higgs

There is no Highlander 2. It never happened. There was a Highlander TV show as well that was well done and expanded on the lore and universe quite a bit. Different main character, but it's the same universe.

John

That was great, ye daft haggis. Victory to Clan Murray. Tout prest.

Jason Scade

This first one's great. The sequels are an absolute mess. No need to bother.

Guy Gordon

Not crazy about the sequels. if you can I would check out the Highlander Series. The sequels fall apart. He is all ways immortal.

John Cipolla

Treat yourself Jen and check out the official Princes of the Universe music video - Connor Macleod duelling Freddie Mercury on the Silvercup sign, katana vs mic stand!

Starromania72

My buddies and I caught this playing on throwback movie nights and never seeing it before we were totally enthralled by the story and music. We concluded that this was immortal Street Fighter. Fighting around the world. One of the best memories I have from college.

Prophet2272

Don't bother with the sequels.

Tom W.

Jen you are never annoying to me you are just perfect with your reactions. Also so you know I say you can take this movie and story as it is and keep it in your memory vault as I assure you the other Highlander films are 0 out of 10.

FranciscoGios

BTW, you kept asking about The Gathering, but you were seeing it happen all along - The Gathering was the many immortals that had converged in NYC and were chopping each other's heads off - thus the news stories about the "headhunter" killer. The final fight between MacLeod and The Kurgen was the ending of The Gathering.

Thomas Yanez

well thats my one of my favourite films and really enjoyed watching that with you jen .

john reed

Whoa I just realised - another movie set to Queen is 1980's Flash Gordon! Timothy Dalton is in it as a hero type guy and it's fun, high camp flashiness all round 😉😉😉

Anthony Peterson

Just finished watching and that was fantastic, the look of bewilderment on your face throughout Jen was fun to see , the movie is a little all over the place total bananas as you say but so much fun I'm sure at some point in the future you will watch it again and enjoy just as much if not more . Queen saved the best song to the closing credits and I'm looking forward to seeing those cool dance moves captions in the YouTube edit 😃 cheers as always for another belter of a reaction Jen 🥂

I love it when we get actors crossing into multiple films during the same week! Spotted Jon Polito who played Bigelow in The Rocketeer playing one of the Detectives in this. I was never big on Highlander when I was younger but I've really grown to love it. Full of really good character actors, some nifty transitions and the camera brings a lot of energy into the film. Great 80s schlock too. "It's better to burn out, than fade away!"

Patrick

I feel like this is exactly the kind of movie I would've rented over and over from Blockbuster (if I was into this kind of movie as a kid lol)

Jen M

"Clancy Brown (The Kurgan) is a very famous actor with a long, distinguished career (IMDB currently lists his acting list at 329, a lot of it in voice acting). He does (among other things) the voice of Mr. Krabs.." - The information was life-changing. I will never see either character, Krabs or Kurgan, in the same way again.

Grga Pitic

its such a quotable movie. "Hi, I am Candy! Of course you are!" :D

Alecco

I can't even remember how many times I rented this vhs as a kid, so re-watchable!

Erik Lundmark

First, I'll do a "double response" to two of your movies right here (The Rocketeer and Highlander): You want to see a movie with Timothy Dalton in it? You love Queen and want to see another movie with their music in it? I've got two words for you: Flash Gordon. You get both! (Flash! A-ah! He'll save every one of us!) You will love it. This movie definitely fits the title of "Cult Classic." You do have the basic idea (bomb at the box office, but becomes popular later on), although some people narrow it a little further by suggesting that it might also require that the movie be a little bit out of the mainstream (either cheesy, edgy, really weird, or something else that makes not like a "standard" movie). Some other examples of movies that definitely fit the overall definition: Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Thing, and They Live. Clancy Brown (The Kurgan) is a very famous actor with a long, distinguished career (IMDB currently lists his acting list at 329, a lot of it in voice acting). He does (among other things) the voice of Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants. You also saw him in Starship Troopers. He was the Sargent who trained them in boot camp. I'll explain what makes the first sequel so bad (besides just bad writing). They do a complete retcon to the story that screws everything up. Here's how bad it was. It has both Sean Connery (yes, he returns) and Michael Ironside in it, yet still sucks. You have to do a really bad job to have those two actors in a movie together and it be that bad. Trust me, you don't want to watch the sequels. The TV series is actually pretty good. It doesn't follow this character, but another member of the Clan MacCleod (who then gets tutored in the ways of the Immortals by Colin MacCleod, so Chris Lambert makes a guest appearance in the pilot episode). It goes into a bit more depth on the nature of being immortal and how they all interact with each other through the ages. It's set up like the movie, though, in that it takes place in present time, but has flashbacks to the past. It even has guest appearances by Roger Daltrey from The Who.

Chris Biebel

Clan Duncan/Robertson here! Yes Jen I would say this is safely within the definition of cult classic fo sho

Anthony Peterson

Jen, I’m gonna have to agree with the rest of the fans. The sequels are BAD lol. Honestly, you would be better off just watching the tv show than the movies.

Julian San

By and large the sequels are pretty bad. The 2nd and 3rd movies each act as a sequel to the original only, they have nothing to do with each other. The 4th movie is set after the events of the Highlander TV series, which also ignores 2 and 3 and only follows on from the original movie. The 5th also follows the TV series. I can't tell you whether it's acknowledging the 4th movie or not, because it's just bat guano crazy.

Patrick Egan

This 1:56 version is available to stream on both Amazon Prime and Peacock. Skip the sequels.

Clay F

This movie means a lot to me, thanks for watching, ❤️ from the highlands of Tasmania🇦🇺

Byron

I WISH I could forget the sequel! lol

Eric Denney

I especially hate what the sequels did to the origins of the Immortals. Avoid if you can, you're not missing out on much. This one is a legit cult classic.

Evan

As much as I like the original, the sequels are forgettable and not worth the time. I'm looking forward to watching this after work.

Grga Pitic

Glad you enjoyed it! I voted for this not only for the great story but knew you would love the soundtrack :) There are 4 sequels, a TV show along with an Animated film and TV show. If you want a cheesy film with some great scene chewing you should definitely watch Highlander 2. I'm a lifelong fan but even I think the rest are bad lol. The 2nd and 3rd films have Connor MacLeod while the 4th and 5th feature characters from the TV show. Just remember: Don't lose your head pal ;)

Wade Wallenstein

Great movie, but terrible sequel, perhaps worst sequel of all time. Recommend skip.

Paul Patine

queen could do the music for every movie ever and i would be ok with that. i knew you would love it.

rubberkidney

The original is a great cult classic, with an awesome soundtrack, but the sequel is an absolute abomination.

Eric Denney

The sequels suck. Stop here. The TV series is great for the first five seasons and greatly expands the lore...but has a terrible 6th season.

Caomhan84

The sequels range from fun-bad to just plain bad, so I don't know if you'd want to mess with those. :)

Bryan Tuck

The sequels suck

Michael Tuffin

Yeah, Highlander 2... not great, producers wanted more from something that should have only been a one off movie.... "WE are the same McCloud,, WE ARE BROTHERS!!".... Ramirez 1541. :D

Brettley67

according to google directors cut is 1 56 so thats what this should be. pretty critical info for sync reasons.

rubberkidney

No to the sequels, There can be only one, and this is it, the sequels are horrific As one friend put it, HL3 is an apology for HL2

Chris Miller

You can get a lot of the soundtrack songs on Queen’s album A Kind of Magic

Geoff S.

honestly the sequel is so weird and bizarre that it kinda comes out on the other side for the better.

rubberkidney

Yes indeed Jen the soundtrack is epic a kind of magic is a banger of a tune 👌 ofc can't watch this until after work which means a long ass wait but that's ok 👍 sequels ummm well the 2nd is worth watching ISH but take it or leave it really

Ian

The sequels are awful IMO 😆

Carlos Perez

Right!? Great stuff, huh?!?!? I prefer stopping with the first one. The TV show was okay though.

Barry Hammock

Saw the sequel but don’t remember it. It also was a tv show for a bit.

Geoff S.

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! HEEEEEEERE WE ARE! BORN TO BE KINGS!
