There were so many directorial points, he must've been keeping a notebook to keep track of what he wanted to do. It wasn't just "you two sit here and do your lines". Like, for example when they were interviewing the patients (37:25) and the older woman wanted a glass of water, Ruffalo brings one and there's a cut to her drinking with her right hand raised to her mouth but the actress' hand is empty, cupped as though she's holding a glass. Then a cut and she sets down an empty glass- with her left hand.
