2023-09-25 22:52:56 +0000 UTCIn terms of how their intellects are matched, they're supposed to be the perfect equals, with one clear difference - Moriarty is a psychopath with no regard whatsoever for anyone other than himself. Conan Doyle doesn't make it quite so explicit in the books, but in Game of Shadows Ritchie spells it out. During their last confrontation, Moriarty is able to predict all of Sherlock's moves to the point of beating him, except one - he never considers the possibility that Holmes might sacrifice himself to save other people. Moriarty is unable to comprehend altruism, and Holmes knew that. That's how he won.
