Everybody remember where we parked!

This one was so funny! And fun! I had NO idea the crew would be time traveling to a 1980's Earth-- SOOOO COOOOL!!! This was exactly the space/Earth adventure I didn't know I needed! AND we have an Enterprise again!! (Yes I did notice it is version "A") 🖖

🖖Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Watching the klingon ship now after seeing so much klingon stuff is interesting

Captain S. H. Beagle

On the ship the smart dog tried to pull to the unusual human scent but the handler missed it

Captain S. H. Beagle

I know this is late but living near San Fran the across the bay in Alameda is a recurring joke in our family, San Fran is more well known but it is a bay shared with other big areas including Alameda ‘across the bay’

Captain S. H. Beagle

"Tell her I feel fine." Spock was my favorite character in this one. Super cool when early in the movie he got into the aquarium with the whales. I thought the Klingon in court making assertions was well done. I am glad the Starfleet physical fitness requirements are not that stringent -- we need Scotty -- that guy is a genius and knows how to make it so, though that 15 seconds of him typing on the 80s computer was weird. Entertaining movie, but I didn't remember how cheesy at times from when I watched it in the late 80s. I like man's extinction of the whales being a "villain" aspect (and "illogical" per Spock). Cool concept going to Earth in the late 20th century. Though I find Star Trek: First Contact (1996) more entertaining in that aspect. Below is my personal ranking of most entertaining to me of the first four, and not an objective evaluation of what is the "best" movie: I (director's cut) III II IV Now onto rewatch V and VI with your reactions.

Clay F

you might be interested to know that the klingons call the ship shown in this film as a "bird of prey". keep in mind that Klingons are a Warrior culture, and the name will make sense. as does the shape of the ship's design.

ANDREW HEBRON

This one was always my favorite.

Sample-Text

This is my favourite original series movie. Can't wait for first contact though!

Thomas Wilkinson

I love this movie and that was a great reaction. :) On a happy note, conservation efforts have ended up being quite effective and humpback whales are no longer on the brink of extinction as they were at the time the movie was made! Their conservation status is now 'Least concern'. Their numbers are currently around 135,000 individuals, up from around 5,000 in the 1960s.

Will

It's uploading now 👍 Unfortunately my countryside internet upload speed is 7mbps 🤦 Will post asap

Jen M

*knock knock* is jen home? I really want some popcorn, but i need some kill bill to go with it!

Chris

"There be whales here"

Colin 3of5

I saw this in the movie theatre in 1986 when I was in college and we actually loved this movie, and being in 1986, it all seemed so relevant at the time. So happy girls like you from our future enjoyed it as well, hehehe

Lana Gorgeous

That makes 2 of us 😄

Colin 3of5

😂😂

Jen M

Bones to Spock : " Kirk trusts your guesses more than he trusts most peoples facts. " I can hardly think of a greater compliment.

Kevin Sommerfield

They didn't really 'get the Enterprise back', exactly... the original, NCC-1701, was destroyed in ST:III. This is a new ship, christened Enterprise, registry NCC-1701-A; which starts a 'line' of the ships named Enterprise with that same 1701 registry.

Chief

If you had the subtitles on the end conversation went like this: (maybe not) Whale: Why are you doing this? Probe: Because the humans are so divided in their opinions. Whale: What do you mean? Probe: Well some think Star Trek is better than Star Wars and others think vice versa. Whale: You can't destroy them for that! Besides, everyone knows the true sci-fi masterpiece of the humans is "Plan Nine From Outer Space." Probe: I guess you're right, I'll let them live. Whale: Great... feel free to nuke the dolphins though, I really hate those smug fish...

Andrew Roach

It was so much fun watching Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home again with you, Jen! Loved the music too! I wish you could have seen this film in a crowded movie theater like I did when it was first released back in 1986! Everyone was laughing and cheering, and having a great time throughout the entire film. It was such a feel-good movie and amazingly fun!

John Courtright

This is such a feel-good movie for me. I love the humor, the message, and the characters a lot in this one. The cop's deadpan when Chekov asks in thick Russian accent where the "nuclear wessles" are never fails to make me chuckle.

Michael Bauer

Another forgotten Nick Meyers movie is Time After Time from 1979 H.G Wells author of Time Machine & War of The Worlds pursues Jack the Ripper into the future. Oops pertaining to Wrath of Khan Review he directed that Nimoy this one & I belive Meyers comes back for 6.

Alberto Blanco

Fun fact... the method used to go back in time here was once used in the old '60s TV series. That's why they already knew how to do it.

Joe Concepts

Really enjoying your Star Trek reactions. Even though I've seen these movies literally dozens of times over the years, seeing your joy and enthusiasm as you watch the movies makes me appreciate the movies as if it's my first time watching them again. Thank you!

Nick Mcmanus

I'm no fan of that movie, but it would just be silly to watch all of them EXCEPT that one. May as well do the whole series. And it does have its moments.

Joe Concepts

Lenoard Nimoy did not care for the the way the Saavik storyline played out.

Colin 3of5

Jen, you might be interested to hear the alternate, unused main title theme of Leonard Rosenman which would have been more of a tribute to the TOS theme: https://youtu.be/w9RrEZEArOw

Gábor Árki

So happy to hear that you will be watching the next one. I think you will get a lot out of it myself. It is absolutely not as terrible as some of the implications suggest. By the direction to just skip it. I understand why it isn't a popular one. Six is arguably better, and it isn't as good as four. But you've liked them all so far, so, I see absolutely no reason why you won't find plenty of enjoyment out of the next one as well. So keep on keeping that open mind that we all love about you Jen. 🖖🏻

Death Lego

I was waiting for her to do the reaction for this one, still my favourite, and I got to see this movie in theatres, when it came out. Yes, I am that old.

JPDotCom23

Oh, the Enterprise was destroyed all right. She burned up in the atmosphere of the Genesis Planet. The original script had Saavik staying behind on Vulcan because she is pregnant with Spock's child.

Sean Novack

I'm old enough to have had the privilege of seeing this in the theater on opening night in Newport Beach, CA. It was a full house and the audience loved every second of it. They even had the original series music piped in to the auditorium before the film started. I'll never forget the constant laughter and the deafening applause when the 1701-A was revealed. One of the best movie-going experiences of my life.

Ortizmo

Nicholas Meyer. Never watched the original series but nonetheless a key name in the Trek cinematic universe.

Ortizmo

It's a reference to a 1950's TV comedy show starring George Burns and Gracie Allen.

Ortizmo

You didn't even see that they were on the ship the USS Enterprise

JPDotCom23

Why are they called George and Gracie? Does anyone know?

JPDotCom23

a great movie with whales.. the Heart of the Sea. basically its about the real Moby Dick

zynjams

Yes as the other comments say the Enterprise A is a new ship. We see so little of the B and C but lots of the the D and E!!

Brett Whittaker

I love that you are enjoying Star Trek this much. I definitely look forward to your reactions to TNG after these movies. The Enterprise was completely destroyed in The Search For Spock. After self destructing, she fell into Genesis' atmosphere and burned up. Whatever was left that stuck the planet was destroyed when Genesis was destroyed. The Enterprise-A is a different ship. Most of the lore surrounding the Enterprise-A's origins suggests that she was originally the USS Yorktown.

Bammer

So happy you enjoyed it! This is the first Star Trek film I saw in theaters and the reveal of Enterprise-A gave me goosebumps. There were many Constitution class ships in service at the time and the one that got renamed was the Yorktown (the one that had a makeshift solar sail to keep the crew alive.)

Wade Wallenstein

Yeah, you missed the "Enterprise goes back in time" episodes ("Tomorrow Is Yesterday", "Assignment: Earth" (Meant to be a "backdoor pilot for a spinoff series with Robert Lansing and Teri Garr), and, technically, "The Naked Time" (the last few minutes of the episode) when they went back in time 71 hours). Some references you seemed to miss: The "George and Gracie" names for the whales is a reference to George Burns and Gracie Allen, a famous comedy duo (George Burns continued on as a comedian after his wife died). The idea that they sent the Russian crew member to retrieve the nuclear material is meant to be humerus because of the state of the cold war when this movie came out. The shape of the Klingon ship is supposed to be bird-like (It's referred to as a "Bird of Prey") and was meant to indicate a past alliance between the Klingons and the Romulans (which the show made up because they lost the models for the Klingon ships so when they tried to film an episode with Klingons, they used Romulan ships and then said that the Klingons must have been using Romulan designs due to the alliance). If you look closely, the listing on the new Enterprise is "NCC-1701-A" with the "A" indicating it's not the original. The Enterprise from The Next Generation is "NCC-1701-D."

Chris Biebel

They didn't get the Enterprise back. Starfleet assigned them a new one. The original was NCC-1701, the new one is NCC-1701-A.

Vwlss Nvwls

I've gone back and forth over the years on whether I like 2 or 4 better, but they're both great for different reasons. #5 unfortunately does represent a dip in quality overall, but there are some good character moments. It's still worth watching for sure. :)

Bryan Tuck

At the end, Kirk entered a place worse than the Neutral Zone. The oceanic biologist put Kirk in the FRIEND zone. LOL

Prof. Writhms

They didn't get the Enteprise 1701 back. It was a new ship that was already being built under another name and was rechristened Enterprise 1701-A.

John

The even numbered films in both the OG Star Trek and Next Generation movies are the best ones. Not to say the odd number movies are not worth watching, but they are not nearly as good, and in a couple cases pretty awful.

Vwlss Nvwls

I saw this one in the theater when I was in high school, and to this day I still find appropriate moments to say "double dumbass on you!" :D You are one step closer to number six "Undiscovered Country", which I think is on par with "Wrath of Khan". But I believe they both had the same director, so I guess it makes sense in that respect.

Vwlss Nvwls

Gotta go full length on this one! A blast! 😂♥️

Jeff Preiss

Hell yeah! Jen is so good at putting out these reactions FAST.

Julian San

Transparent aluminum has since been invented

That moment you realize Kirk and crew went back in time in a ship they took from Klingon Doc Brown. The comedy of Russian Checkov asking where to find the nuclear vessels during the height of the Cold War doesn't have the same impact today.

John

Nobody's perfect.

RJ MacReady

Sounds like you had a whale of a good time!!!

daniel j brooks

Double dumbass on you!

John

Perfect for a Friday night!

Allen Bond

Eddie Murphy was originally wanted to costar in this, but he could not fit it in his schedule due to him filming Beverly Hills Cop II.

Matt O'Keefe

WOOHOO! Not waiting to watch this for a second.

PapaXan

Perfect timing! I just ordered some wings and a pizza and was wondering what I'd watch while I ate.

Thomas Yanez

You'd have to be a double dumbass not to love this one! 🤣

Death Lego

Woohoo! Press play. 🐳🖖💜 Trektastic reaction lassie! Funny, exciting and an admirable message. I'd a whale of a good time. Kirk "We have to find some humpbacks." Scotty "People?" 😂
