2023-09-24 17:20:52 +0000 UTCSomething I found interesting - and hear me out here... In a sense, this is a feminist action movie. There's a literal patriarchy, led by on old white dude, which exploits the people, promotes violence and submission, treats men as cannon-fodder and women as property for their life-giving power (symbolized by white, pregnancy, milk, and water). Furiosa has been brought up in and exploitet by this system - but in an otherwise male-coded role. Max has been robbed of everything he loves by these people and the world they built. He has little primary agency in his story (in all movies, actually) - being a victim of circumstance and trying to make the best of it in his own way - Furiosa has quite a lot more primary agency (and her actions initiate the story). In the end, the patriarchy is defeated by its victims (both women and men) - the women freed - and the life-giving water returned to the people. And while this isn't exactly a minor detail ... the movie never proselytizes or talks down to people. It just tells a story - in a very stylish and expertly executed way. Such a joy to watch.
