A few things: First, I'm guessing you never saw Les Miserable, because the song with all the various groups singing about tomorrow night and the song where the Mole dies are obvious spoofs of songs from Les Miserable. Second, the Brian Boitano joke actually predates South Park. One of the shorts that they made featuring the kids had Jesus and Santa fighting over Christmas and the boys asked "What would Brian Boitano do?" Boitano appears and says that Christmas should be about being good to one another. The boys go to Jesus and Santa with that message and save the day. That short was passed around Hollywood and was what helped pave the way for South Park to be made.

Matt Parker and Trey Stone did indeed make it to Broadway with “The Book of Mormon”. Yes, that is indeed George Clooney. Matt and Trey got their start by making a short film called “The Spirit of Christmas”. It went around Hollywood thanks to Clooney emailing it to his friends. “Blame Canada” became an Oscar nominated song at the 2000 Academy Awards. It was sung onstage by Robin Williams; they had to have “and that bitch Anne Murray too” cleared by the real Anne Murray in order for it to be broadcast. The song lost however to “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins for Disney’s TARZAN. Matt and Trey (who showed up to the Oscars in drag and high on ecstasy) would not take this lying down; they didn’t mind losing, just not to him. They proceeded to make an episode about him being an unequivocal jerk always holding his Oscar and finally having it placed up somewhere people dread. There’s unsubstantiated rumors (but where’s the fun in that?) that while Saddam Hussein was in American custody prior to his execution, he was shown the movie numerous times.
