Fargo S01E03-04 Full Length Reaction

Did you know the human eye can see more shades of green than any other color?

These episodes were great! I particularly liked the juxtaposition in ep 3 of Gus v Lester and how they each deal with doing something 'bad', and I really liked the reveal of the money from the movie and the cliffhanger at the end of ep 4! Can't wait to watch the next 2!

First, my congratulations to you Jen. I seem to recall spotting the red window scraper when I first watched episode 3 years ago -- I recognized its significance but at the time I figured it was a simple visual call back to the movie. You immediately recognized it as meaning that Stavros actually had found the ransom money that Carl Showalter had buried. I loved that episode 4 opened with Stavros driving through the snowy wasteland, pulling a trailer, set to the main theme from the movie, it is evocative of the opening moments of the movie with Jerry Lundegard driving the same snowy road, towing a trailer carrying the infamous tan Cierra. When Malvo showed up at the Duluth Post Office in ep. 2, the package he was looking for contained info about his false ID as Frank Peterson. This is apparently supplied by the contracting service that gives him assignments, to be used in case he needs an alibi. Clearly they also set up fake websites and phone numbers to operatives that will support his story. Another movie call back was Lorne/Frank mentioning the name of his town and adding "Go Bears!" as one of the young prostitutes in the movie had when being questioned by Marge. Keep watching, these call backs are in every episode and every season but not all of them are call backs to Fargo, some are from other Coen Brothers movies. Lester is such an interesting character study, as from the beginning of episode 1 he seems set-up to be a character we want to empathize with -- Murdering his wife is pretty heinous and unforgivable but it is preceded by so much bullying from her that it sort of looks like a moment of temporary insanity (She as much as dares him to hit her with the hammer). We watch him struggle to stay a half-step ahead of Molly, still carrying his guilt in the form of an infected wound on his hand. But here, dealing with the two thugs, he begins to show a latent ability to outsmart folks who continue to underestimate him (Molly clearly doesn't make this mistake where Lester is concerned).

Oh my, I'm bursting to see this! 🥳 🚿 Was in and out of the shower in two Bond songs for it (instead of the usual 4 or 5). Press play. 😀 💜
