๐Ÿ––Star Trek: The Original Series Extra Eps S02E10 Journey to Babel + S03E09 The Tholian Web Full Length Reaction

Spock, I've always suspected you were a little more human than you let on.

Last 2 episodes! ๐Ÿ–– I enjoyed both eps, and man Journey to Babel was a jam-packed story! Thanks for voting such great episodes for us to watch. I feel like I have a pretty good background now to proceed on to the movies and I'm really looking forward to them! ๐Ÿ‘
Lookout for a Boston cameo in the outro! ๐Ÿ•

I think it was a bassoon and a bass clarinet together

Anthony Picard

Just looking through all the selected episodes and there are so many great episodes, just from season 1 alone, that were not picked. You should consider watching these, even if just on your own, but if you can ever circle back, we would appreciate the reactions. I can't imagine never having watched these episodes: ep 4 The Naked Time ep 8 Miri ep 15 Shore Leave ep 16 The Galileo Seven ep 19 Tomorrow is Yestereday ep 24 This Side of Paradise

Your handle marks you as a big B5 fan. Me too.

MertzRocks

You meant IV... V is The Final Frontier. I love Jane Wyatt's performance in this ep. I always knew she had played the wife in 'Father Knows Best', but until I looked her up just now I did not know she won Emmys three years in a row for that role.

MertzRocks

great reastions Jen, as usual! And such a cutie....I am talking about Boston ofc!

Randy Aiken

I enjoyed the Journey To Babel ep, still to see the paired ep. ๐Ÿ’œ So very much looking forward to the old Trek films 2, 3 and 4! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ And 6! ๐Ÿฅณ Trek II : Wrath of Khan will have a big emotional impact, I think.

Jason Scade

All of these Star Trek: TOS shows were fun Jen. In particular, your appreciation of the music throughout was very cool! I'm so glad you now have a solid foundation for the Star Trek movies. Buckle up! You're in for quite a ride! I can't wait!

John Courtright

I adored your reaction, as usual. I admire your attention to the music, and particularly the orchestration. I wonder if what you've been calling a "bass clarinet" might actually be a bassoon? Vulcan and Romulan blood is green, because it's based on copper rather than iron.

Ken Schneyer

The Tholian Web aired in late '68, before the public would have seen many Apollo space suits. I'd guess the silver suits were influenced mostly by the Mercury suits of the early 60's. The directors cuts of the first two movies would be preferred but practically speaking I think the theatrical cuts will be more widely available for streaming and that's a primary consideration for most reactors.

Andrew Skow

She has. I've seen them, but it's probably YouTube doing YouTube things.

Dustin Denner

I'm sure I've commented this before, but as others have mentioned definitely watch the Director's Editions for both The Motion Picture (ideally the recent 2021 remaster) and The Wrath of Khan. The pacing of TMP is much better in the Director's Edition (the Theatrical release was unfinished), and there are some additional scenes for TWOK that add some useful context.

Sean Ellingham

I posted all the YT edits here but I'll release on YT closer to when we watch the movies

Jen M

I second the notion of watching the Director's Edition of the first movie. It changes absolutely nothing about the movie's story but merely adds some great bonus visual effects. Also you have been doing TOS episodes for a while now but none seem to have made it to YouTube yet?

Andrew Roach

These were good choices to delve a little deeper into the Star Trek mythos, and I think you'll appreciate The Motion Picture. I strongly recommend the 4K remaster of the Director's Edition.

Sean Novack

This was fun, Jen! You probably weren't aware that Vulcans have green blood, hence the color you saw during the transfusion. Spock having green blood was something Dr. McCoy used often when arguing with him.

Retro Maven

I used to watch these with my dad around the time the movies came out. If you ever make it to DS9 I've got a list of great episodes ๐Ÿ‘

Fun fact about "Journey to Babel": You've actually seen the actor who plays Sarek, Mark Lenard, before. He played the Romulan commander in S1E14, "Balance of Terror". :) Both Lenard and Jane Wyatt, who played Amanda, reprise their roles in "Star Trek V: The Voyage Home". Sarek also makes a couple of appearances in "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Ed Bartlett

One thing about the first movie is that itโ€™s 90% all about the music! And I really think youโ€™re going to walk away, smiling just on the music alone. I have absolutely been loving this Star Trek trip!
