Fargo (1996) Full Length Reaction

There's more to life than a little money you know. And here ya are. And it's a beautiful day.

Ohhh my goodness I loved this movie so so SO much!!! I should've known it would be great since I loved The Big Lebowski so much too! Marge Gunderson is an absolutely iconic movie heroine but all the characters in this were unique and fascinating. I really loved this one! Apologies in advance for the accent... What other Coen brothers should we check out?

Fargo (1996) Full Length Reaction

Comments

The Big Lebowski was the follow-up to Fargo. Fargo was obviously beloved and Oscar-nominated, but Lebowski was poorly reviewed at first and really earned its status later, as a cult classic. Note that Buscemi's Carl is a motormouth -- while in Lebowski he is mostly limited to background comments with the constant rejoinder from Walter "Shut Up, Donny, you're out of your element!" Marge was never in danger at the end of the movie. In most Coen comedies the rule is that, while the criminals can be quite dangerous, but they are also pretty incompetent. She had her gun drawn already when she called out to Gaear, and had it at the ready as she approached him. The phone call where she finds out that Mike was lying to her about being married and widowed was instrumental in convincing her to return to the car dealership and confront Jerry one last time.

Oh? Get me his address and a gun to convince him that money is best kept by me. I'll give it back later, I promise, really...

I know who finds it!

Indeed No Country for Old Men is great. It won the Oscar for best picture, has one of the greatest villains of all time and it does something unique that you especially should notice, or notice the lack of. The great Raising Arizona is the polar opposite type of a movie and True Grit is a Western remake. Not a Coen movie but 3:10 to Yuma is a great western as well with a loaded cast, one of my favorites. You probably recognized Buscemi from Lebowski but his silent partner in Fargo was also in Lebowski, he was the nihilist. Frances McDormand won the Oscar for best actress in this role, she owns 3 of them overall... wow. Imagine the lucky person that will find that satchel when the snow melts with 1 million bucks in it, less $80,000.

Please Jen, take Richard's advice! He knows of what he speaks!

james repka

Jen if you are looking for a TV series Fargo would be a good choice. Several seasons with a different story and characters each time.

Richard Meacham

the accent is the mvp :) the character's and Jen's ;)

Brilliant reaction to a great film, oh yaa

The Coens are pretty incredible filmmakers. They’ve made a lot of films (somewhere in the 20s), and there are really only two that most people agree are flat-out stinkers. If you’re looking for something that’s proven popular for reactions, No Country For Old Men seems to do well, and a lot of reactors are doing O Brother Where Art Thou and Raising Arizona (my favorite) now too. If you want to beat your own trail a little and give something a shot that not many reactors do, Inside Llewyn Davis has great music and a wonderful central performance from Oscar Isaac. Hail Caesar is a really clever Hollywood satire that’s going to catch on huge with reactors if anyone ever gives it a chance. I also love A Serious Man and Barton Fink, but those are both pretty weird movies that haven’t quite caught the public’s imagination.

ya know, just funny looking

Good that you witnessed some of Frances McDormand works. Some of my favorites from the Coens work are No Country for Old Men, True Grit(2010), & Bridge of Spies(2015)

Great reaction! My Coen Bros recommendation would definitely be No Country For Old Men. It's a masterpiece. Another Frances McDormand (Marge) movie I highly recommend is Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Also starring Woody Harrelson, Peter Dinklage and Sam Rockwell.
