Under Siege (1992) Full Length Reaction

Bang, you're dead.

πŸ† Poll Winner! Holy moly this was gruesome! Throats ripped out, eyes gouged, heads knifed, shoulders sawed-- yikes!! But it was 90's cheesey action at it's best with some killer 90's beats, tons of explosions + a crazy ass Tommy Lee Jones! I had a fun time with this one!

A few πŸ§€ action movie suggestions. Broken Arrow (Travolta / Slater) Last Action Hero (Arnie) Con-Air (Cage) The Running Man (Arnie) Commando (Arnie) Demolition Man (Stallone)

Me not liking Seagal is less to do with his acting or fighting skills and more to do with him being a russia loving putin simp.

True, and I absolutely love JCVD (movie and man), but when Seagal hit the scene JCVD was still largely unknown as an action star, which is why I was saying that Seagal was sort of unique in his start. I think if JCVD had already been a known action start, Seagal would have struggled to make it. I could be wrong, but it is something I have always pondered. Although I do enjoy the early Seagal movies, Seagal himself had never really impressed me.

I was a big Seagal fan growing up in the 90s. I'd recommend Under Siege 2 (co-starring a young Katherine Heigl), Out For Justice and Fire Down Below as some other good movies of his. By the end of the 90s it was pretty much over for him. He has been exclusively direct to video for about 20 years now.

David Murray

Oh, also, Gary Busey is a legendary madman too, but in a more likable way, and he's actually a good actor, but a pretty out there guy. You saw his son Jake Busey in "Starship Troopers". The tall blonde guy with the same face.

My favorite reaction!! Growing up with this movie and watching you enjoy it was a amazing surprise (Seagal movies are an acquired taste). The fact that you will tackle movies that other people just won't is what makes your channel great!! 🫑

So, to understand the Steven Segal thing, he came out in like the late 80s and was known for cheesey action, which isn't a bad thing. Some of the early ones can be fun, but this movie and it's sequel are probably his best. The reason he's become a joke is because as he picked up fame, he got really full of himself, and he's just a really wacky guy in real life. He's got a big ego, and basically bullshits a lot to make it sound like he's the guy that knows everything about everything. He might even be delusional enough to really believe his own bullshit. So, he became a caricature of himself, but particularly when he started aging, he just made himself look very ridiculous, but also oblivious to the fact that everyone just saw him as very pompous and comical. One of the jokes is he's supposed to be the martial arts expert, so he claims, but it got to the point that he didn't look like he could lift his legs very far off the ground anymore. There was one movie of his that he directed himself when he was at the height of his fame, and insisted on also editing it, but his edit was so horrible that without telling him, the producers brought in a real editor to re-edit it, and when it was finished, they showed it to him, and he not only didn't know the difference, but then he bragged about what a good job he'd done. The best Steven Segal story I've heard though, was from a comedian who met with him about potentially making a movie together. Steven Segal comes in and says to the comedian, "I just read the greatest script that's ever been written!" So, the comedian replies, "Oh, wow. That's great. Who wrote it?" And Steven Segal looked at him and said, "I did!"

I think Van Damme might have been his only sort of "direct" movie competition. Both of them are "martial artists" (and Van Damme has a professional kickboxing record) and typically use their bodies to defeat their enemies as opposed to stars like Arnold/Stallone who either mow them down with like a minigun or just ungracefully haymaker them into oblivion. These days Van Damme is *considerably* more likeable, even if he's still pretty insane by most standards (his "Je suis aware" moment from JCVD is just... wow... words can't even describe it). Edit: now that I think of it, "Jean-Claude Van Johnson" is recent-ish (2016) Van Damme and it's comedy gold (it's one of those Amazon Prime mini series).

This is Seagal at one of his best, long before he went completely off the deep end. He's the reason I studied Aikido when I was a teenager and while the effectiveness of the art itself is debatable: it did do wonders for my discipline and self-control (which were severely lacking). And now he's shilling for a dictator, unbelievable. What a fall from grace :/. Hard to Kill and Marked for Death (both from 1990) are two other notable ones of his - both typical 90s hardcore action movies with neck/limb snapping that only a 90s movie knows how to do. After Under Siege... Executive Decision ('96) is probably his best one ;). And after that... it's just a slow descent into madness.

Alexis

for pure cheese action and/or sci-fi i would say... split second (1992), free jack(1992), crossworlds (1996), Gotcha (1985), Ladyhawk (1995), Beastmaster (1982), watchers (1988), Watchers 2 (1990), Lawnmower man (1992), critters (1986). Ladyhawk is probably the best out of all of these (great music) but these are SUPER cheesy. I grew up watching these on TV(Thank you SCI-FI channel) and bought most of them on VHS back in the day. They might not be the best movies but for those that grew up with them they do bring back memories.

Erika Eleniak (Jordan Tate) was an actual Playboy bunny at the time of this movie, or some time before. Steven Seagal was entertaining in the 80s and 90s, but any more he is just kind of pathetic. I honestly think the only reason he became an action star was because there was no one like him at the time. Otherwise, you go back and watch his old movies and they are entertaining cheese action, but you are left wondering why Seagal was ever popular. An old, often forgotten Tommy Lee Jones movie that I love is Black Moon Rising. It's a sort of heist, action/thriller from the early 80s.

Vwlss Nvwls

wildly glad that someone decided to do this one there are so many great Seagal movies - each more ridiculous than the last

Luetin

I do suggest Pacific Rim and Waterworld, they are both a great time. Waterworld got a bad rep at it's release, but has garnered a cult following since. And Jason Scade mentioned The Last Boy Scout, which is a really, really fun buddy cop, over the top style movie that I know you would love.

Vwlss Nvwls

Lots of parmesan fun. πŸ§€πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ She says of Steven Seagal; "He has those big sausage fingers." πŸ˜‚ πŸ’œ An excellent cheesy 90s buddy/action film is 'The Last Boy Scout' (1991). Written by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), directed by Tony Scott (True Romance, Man On Fire, Top Gun, Crimson Tide). The two lead actors are fab together.

Jason Scade

I didn't vote for Waterworld, but it's definately a fun movie, you'll have fun with it.
