Fight Club (1999) Full Length Reaction

You are not your job, you're not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fucking khakis. You are the all singing, all dancing crap of the world.

NOTE: I comment on a static sound throughout the movie, I thought it was there intentionally but realized afterwards it was my copy only. For the YouTube edit we fixed the sound!

WOWWWWW! I really loved this one!!! So friggin glad I went in knowing nothing! There's so much to love about this one-- great writing, great acting, grungy disgustingness, super dark humor, MEATLOAF, and a twist for the ages. Wow wow wow. I loved it so much.

Fight Club (1999) Full Length Reaction

This is absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time. Thanks for the reaction.

Funny story: Basically none of the trivia the movie tells you - every point where you ask "wait is that true?" - isn't true, or at least not entirely true. Of course they can't really tell you how to make napalm out of household chemicals. But there's some great trivia the movie teaches you without saying anything explicit, such as, there's almost nowhere in America called Paper Street. In the movie's anonymous big city? It's extremely unlikely to exist. Cause it's the mail office's more or less official code for undeliverable mail. If the address doesn't exist, it's on Paper Street, they say. We have no way to fathom the degree of unreality "Jack" experiences. I have read the book of the movie, and the comic book sequels to the movie Palahniuk wrote, and I would say neither have anything much to add to the movie. There's a couple of fun things you only get in the book but I can cover them right here. One, Tyler explains he doesn't want "Jack" to talk to Marla about him because he doesn't want to be talked about when he's not there, which is pretty reasonable. Two, someone who I'm not sure if it's "Jack" or Tyler remarks "guys like us can't get married until after our mothers are dead." I think Forrest Gump is one of the greatest movies Hollywood has ever produced, a tender and sincere and personal love story between a couple of misfits that manages to make the story of a person's life seem epic in the classical sense in a way that no story except maybe Peer Gynth has managed. Some people, notably Wil Wheaton, think it's a monstrous parable of being rewarded for doing what the people in charge tell you to do without asking questions and being punished for doing otherwise. Probably it's an important movie to watch under any circumstance.

Best reaction ever. Meat Loaf appeared in 46 movies from 1962 - 2014 including The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Wayne’s World (1992), Black Dog (1998) and The 51st State (2001), several TV movies and numerous TV shows (The Equalizer, Tales from the Crypt, The Outer Limits, House and many more).

I always felt like almost everything was in the narrators mind. I think he was dealing with being diagnosed with testicle cancer which is what really brought him to Remaining Men Together. Tyler and Marla were masculine and feminine aspects of himself in conflict over him losing his testicles.

This was a great reaction. Yeah the reveal when it happens really slaps ya in the face. After I first saw this, I spent over 2 weeks trying to convince a friend of mine to watch this cause I knew it would be right up his alley, but he didn't want to because he thought it was a plotless movie about fighting. When I finally got him to sit down with me and watch it, he was blown away and it's one of his favorite films now. You should definitely see 12 Monkeys. It's great Brad is great. Forrest Gump is also really really good. Meat Loaf has been in other things. He had a great role in an episode of House. I don't recall which one off hand. I'll have to look for it. Overall lot of fun, lol I was waiting for that reveal, ah man. I had a similar reaction. But it's funny cause they have so so many clues throughout the beginning of the movie.

Fab reaction ♥, this was mind-blowing in 1999. On re-watching, you see lots of hints and clues regarding the twist. Another 90s film that is a very dynamic rollercoaster thrill ride is 'True Romance' (1993), two star-crossed lovers go on the run from The Mob and cops. Lots of very famous faces in it. Written by Tarantino, so expect violence.

Palahniuk also has a book named Choke that was made into a movie. I read the book but the movie reviews were poor and so didn't see it. I can't think of another equal but another '90s movie with good story and a big reveal is The Usual Suspects. Add my vote for Forrest and 12 Monkeys.

Brian

Haha! Well technically the main guy's name is Tyler Durden :D Generally he's referred to as "The narrator" though. This is one of those movies that is rewarding on a rewatch as well for sure - as you see all the little hints, like the flash-frames of Tyler in the background at the beginning, and things like why Tyler says he never answers the phone. Just one of the best twists in movie history for sure. IIRC, some of the bomb/explosive recipes etc are made up for the film, generally the authorities aren't too keen on movies spelling out to people how to blow things up.

crawlie

Highly recommend 12 Monkeys!

If you haven’t see it I recommend the TV series Mr Robot. I think this inspired that show. Also has a lot of computer hacking if you like that stuff

Richard Meacham

had no idea this was based on a book, lol. "inception" is nolans. for fincher u already saw "se7en" and "The game". I recommend "Gone Girl"(2014), "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"(2011) and "panic room"(2002), and yes to the "12 monkeys" and "forest gump" keep it up :)

Lean

This is my reward when I get home from work.

Timothy Burrows

This is random, but check out Alexa Melo's channel on YouTube. She does some great covers and sings, plays the instruments, and produces it on her own, and she does a great "Where Is My Mind"

Richie Cabral

Have you seen No Country For Old Men? If not you should watch it. It’s based on a Cormac McCarthy novel.

Ubermensch1

Wow. That reaction was incredible. I thought there was a possibility that you'd find it "too much". Bopping along to the Pixies at the end was *chef's kiss*. Thanks Jen! edit: Oh, and yes to Forrest Gump and especially 12 Monkeys. Both great movies that are also very "reactable"

Starfire

Before you said it, I was watching this and thinking "12 Monkeys". Also, a while back I suggested "Legends of the Fall".

Richie Cabral

ooooo was looking forward to this!!

MattN

Yaaayyyyy! I was getting worried. The week is almost over, and you just squeezed it in!
