Great reactions, Jen! I just love to see your jaw drop and eyes get wide when you see something that astounds you. One thing you mentioned in your intro is that you want to watch “Cool Hand Luke” (1967), but it came in second place in your poll. I know I’ve said this before, but I can’t stress it enough. If you WANT to watch a movie for the channel, WATCH IT! You don’t have to wait until it wins some poll, or there are a lot of requests for it. Yeah, Paul Newman and Robert Redford are one of the greatest acting duos of all time. Sure, there are character duos such as Riggs and Murtaugh in the “Lethal Weapon” series, Marty McFly and Doc Brown in the “Back To The Future” trilogy, Rocky and Apollo Creed and Adrian in the “Rocky” series, etc. But those are the same characters in the same roles. With actors such as Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, etc. they play different roles in their various movie projects together. And the film chemistry is palpable in their movies. According to Dollars.com, $500,000 in 1936 would equate to $10,676,181.08 today. Something I’ve only just noticed in the last couple of times I’ve watched “The Sting” – Luther Coleman (Hooker’s partner) was played by Robert Earl Jones (AKA Robertearl Jones), James Earl Jones’ father. And now that I know that, I can never unsee it and can’t believe I didn’t make the connection until recently. I will whole-heartedly second you watch, “Three Days of the Condor” (1975). Also “Sneakers” (1992) is a pretty good suspense ride.

Robert Redford "is handsome in this." Yeah, the actor who is often considered one of the best looking men of all time is handsome in this... ;-)

Nobody has more fun watching movies than you. You had me cracking up watching Live and Let Die with you. I'll be watching this one later tonight. Cant wait.

Doug Cook

After you watch Cool Hand Luke, you should look into The Natural if you havent seen it.

Jen, I will teach you how to cheat at poker. It will cost you $20 a hand until you figure out what Im doing.

I really enjoyed this reaction! Paul Newman plays a pool shark in “The Hustler” (1961). Then Martin Scorsese made a sequel to it 25 years later called “The Color of Money” (1986) with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. Both excellent movies I'm sure you'd love, and would possibly convince you to take-up playing pool. 😁👌

"Everything's Jake" I'm going to get some milage out of that..she's a con woman,a jewel thief and safe cracker,She's 'Jen the Gem'💎can we get a Robert Redford poll up soon Jenny?♡

This is one of my favorites. Interestingly it produced Redford's only Academy Award nomination in the acting category, which he won. It sits near a significant change from older films to newer ones, in that credits were shorter (the guy who made the ranch dip for the craft services table didn't get an on-screen credit, for instance) and It was common to put Major credits at the front of the movie rather than the back end. Marvin Hamlish's win for the core was controversial for a while, since most of the music was written by Scott Joplin in the earliest parts of the 20th century. Interestingly Joplin's music was as ancient to folks at the time of the movie's setting (Sept 1936) as the setting was to the movie's audience. The soundtrack was hugely popular, with the main theme "The Entertainer" reaching the Billboard top 10 in early 1974. Redford was on quite a hot streak beginning with this film -- His next 6 movies after The Sting were 3 Days of the Condor, All the President's Men, The Electric Horseman, Brubaker, The Natural, and Out of Africa.I would recommend looking at all of these starting with 3 Days of the Condor.

Half a million dollars in 1936 is like 10 million today, but only 1.7 million in 1974 when the movie was made.

Yes, that is most definitely Ragtime music. I mentioned this in the poll post, but this soundtrack album was beloved by my stepmom so I grew up listening to all of the songs. $11,000 in 1933 is equal to about $250,000 today, so that was a wad of cash.

I am starting this thread for people to reply with Jen's code name... The Canadian Pony Tail

It is hard to go wrong with any movie starring either Robert Redford or Paul Newman, especially when they are starring alongside another big name.
